Doyle Brunson has made it clear that he isn’t too keen on tournaments anymore, mainly because the forced hours of play day after day are tough on him. Once he gets to the tables he is still a competitor though and after entering the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic Doyle quickly shot to the top of the chip counts during day 2 play. Day 3 didn’t treat him as well though and after doubling a player up early he continued to trend downward before being eliminated about halfway through the day.
After the completion of the 3rd level of play for the day the field is down to only 61 remaining players, losing a slew of big names to go along with Brunson. Barry Greenstein (right) is now free to help Doyle get a game going in Bobby’s room after his elimination. Barry lost a good sized pot earlier to Abe Mosseri when his open ender didn’t get there and then he was all in with T9 and called by Soheil Shamseddin with AK. Shamseddin paired his ace to eliminate Barry from the tournament.
Day 1 chip leader Darryll “DFish” Fish has a rough day two but was in a position to rally on day 3 when he was all in for around 100k with his pocket aces against pocket tens. The tens ended up making a straight though to eliminate Fish from the tournament. Eric “Rizen” Lynch and Mike “SirWatts” Watson have also both been eliminated.
With all the eliminations the chips have to be going somewhere, and lately they have went the way of Amit “Amak316″ Makhija and Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire. Both are over 500k chips going into the fourth level of play for the day. Devo won a huge pot when he flopped a set of deuces on a Q32 board against a player with the Q
9
for top pair and a flush draw. The set held up for Devo and he finds himself quickly going from one of the shorter stacks to one of the largest in the room.
Makhija (left)has also turned a small stack into a larger one, though he commented that he isn’t all that happy with how he is playing. In tournaments though a little luck can turn a questionable play into a monster stack, and if Makhija can get back on top of his game he can be a force throughout the rest of this tournament. To hear more about Makhija’s day check out tonight’s episode of PokerRoad radio where Amit will be the guest, along with cohosts Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke and Bryan Devonshire.
