McMasterful Call by Affleck by Brett on 07.11.09, 9:53 pm

Matt “mcmatto” Affleck is on a rush that most only dream about.

After winning a 750K pot by cracking aces with JT (made a straight on the turn after the chips went in), Affleck got involved in a hand with actor and comedian Lou Diamond Phillips that would increase his stack to 1.7 million, putting him among the chip leaders.

With the blinds at 3K/6K Affleck raised to 14K and two players called. The flop was KJ6 and after the small blind checked Affleck bet 27K. Phillips called and the other player folded. The K came on the turn and Affleck checked. Phillips bet 50K and Affleck took a moment before calling. He checked again when the 3 hit the river and Phillips quickly fired out 75K. Affleck contemplated a decision for about a minute before rolling chips into the pot for a call. “Donation,” he said as he looked for a response from Phillips. “Good call,” Phillips replied, and he tossed his hand into the muck. Affleck tabled 63, which got a rise out of everyone at the table as Matt scooped a pot worth around 350K.

Frank “Round42″ Rusnak got a little lucky to double up and stay alive in the Main Event a little longer. He got his last 90K in preflop holding AQ to another player’s pocket kings. Things looked dire for Frank as the flop came down J97. The 8 on the turn was not much help either, but the A on the river sure was. Rusnak’s pair of aces gave him the pot and doubld him up to 180K.

Craig “craigthedeac” Boyd continued to build his chip stack this past hour. We watched as a player raised to 15K in middle position with the blinds at 3K/6K ante 1K and Craig called from the button. The flop came down T72 and the initial raiser checked to Boyd who bet 20K. His opponent then check-raised him an additional 23K which Craig called. The turn was the 3 and the other player bet out 48K. Boyd didn’t take too long before calling and the two were off to the river. The last card came down 3 and the initial raiser checked. As soon as Boyd checked behind the other player mucked his cards. Boyd turned up his 88 and raked the pot that brought his chip count up to 1.175 million.

Olivier “livb112″ Busquet received a near triple up at his table in the Blue Section. We caught the action after the flop had already been dealt and the board was J72. Busquet held J7 against TT and KQ and the 7 on the turn eliminated one opponent. The 3 fell on the river, giving Olivier the best hand and a pot worth over 400K.

Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich increased his stack after eliminating a player at an adjacent table. Rich opened to 15K with the blinds at 3K/6K/1K and a player on the button moved all in for about 70K. Jordan called with AQ which dominated his opponent’s A2. The board ran 8657K and Rich chipped up to 625K.

Here are just a few other chip counts we spotted on our last lap around the Amazon room:

Nick “fu_15″ Maimone - 1.1 million

Joe Sebok - 458K
Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith - 235K
