Mass P5s Carnage in the $1.5K PLHE by Jessica on 06.10.09, 4:41 am

As play neared the money bubble, P5ers started falling left and right be it from coolers, two-outers, or coin flips.  Here is a recap of the past hour of bustouts that we either caught or heard about:

Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul (pictured left) seemed poised to go on a run when Jeremiah “Believer82″ Vinsant raised to 2.5K from middle position with the blinds at 500/1,000.  Kevin reraised to 9K from the cutoff, leaving 13.5K behind.  Vinsant then repotted for 13.5K (convenient, no?) and the two players flipped their cards up.  Vinsant held AK to Saul’s 88.  The eights held on the JT63T board and Kevin doubled up to 46K while Jeremiah dropped to 36.5K.

Just a few minutes later, the two online pros tangled again.  We missed the hand, but Vinsant explained that he raised in early position to 2.5K, Saul called behind him, and a third player who only had 7K to start the hand, flat called as well.  The flop came A-7-4 with two diamonds and Jeremiah bet out 5.6K.  Saul raised to 12K total, the short stack folded, and Vinsant moved all-in with JT.  Kevin called with a set of fours which were ahead for the moment, but the nine on the turn gave Vinsant straight draw outs in addition to his flush draw and the 2 on the river resulted in Jeremiah doubling through Kevin to 72K and leaving Saul with only 15K.   Kevin was eliminated a few hands later.

At the next table over we watched as Tracey “xtrACEy” Nguyen bet 5.5K into a raised pot from under the gun on a J97 board.  The player in the hijack called.  The turn came T and Tracey checked to her opponent, who bet out 10K.  Nguyen moved all-in for her remaining 40K or so and the other player called with pocket tens for a turned set, which best Tracey’s A-J for top pair top kicked.  After a countdown of the stacks, it was determined that Tracey still had around 4K to work with, but she was unable to mount a comeback and headed for the door shortly after that.

Blake “Balla-B13″ Cahail (pictured right) also fell just short of the money.  We missed the preflop action, but we watched as two players checked to Cahail on an {8s]62 flop who bet out 9K (roughly half his stack) from the button.  The player in the big blind check-raised all-in for around 15K more and the third player folded.  Cahail pushed his remaining 12K or so into the middle and turned up two overs in the form of AJ.  The other player held pocket sevens and the turn and river failed to improve Blake’s hand so he was eliminated.

We don’t have the details, but it appears that Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin also just missed the money, finishing just two or three spots out of the cash.  The bubble did burst shortly before play ended and everyone returning tomorrow is guaranteed a payout.

There are still several P5ers left in the remaining field of 62, who will return tomorrow at 2PM to play down to a final table.  Here are the end of day chip counts of some of them:
