We spotted Nick “fu_15″ Maimone (pictured at left) pushing the rest of his well-above-average stack into the middle of the table during the second level the Main Event Day 1B from a distance and rushed over to his table. The board read T

on the turn and Maimone and another player in the pot had apparently been facing a huge re-raise from the player in seat three. The other player at the table later said he folded pocket kings.
“Do you have it?” Maimone asked his opponent as as he pushed his chips in the middle to make the call. “I have a five.”
Maimone turned over 5

. The other player then showed his Q
T
. A 2
fell on the turn and Maimone was awarded the more than 100K pot. He counted his stack for us — he has 105K to be exact — and then left two minutes early for the dinner break without playing another hand. To put Maimone’s current stack into some perspective, it would rank 13th on the list of end of Day 1A chip counts.
Across the room, Nathan “darkcheck_” Tuthill (pictured at right) got involved in a big pot of his own. The player in seat two had made a raise to 1,050 before the flop and Tuthill re-raised to 2,825. Seat two made the call and the flop was Q

. Tuthill threw out an orange 5K chip and announce a bet, which we believe was 4.7K. The player in seat two then moved all pretty quickly and Tuthill was left with a decision for his 17K or so remaining chips. After a few agonizing minutes of consideration Tuthill made the call and showed A

to his opponent’s K
K
. The turn was the 4
and Tuthill asked for one more black card. He got his wish when the 2
fell on the river sending Tuthill’s stack soaring to around 50K.
Shortly after his big double up we saw Tuthill walk over to David “doubledave22″ D’Alesandro’s table to recount the hand. We’re not sure, but D’Alesandro may have shared this hand as well. A flop of J
J

had been dealt and D’Alesandro had called a bet from the player in seat six. The player in seat four then raised 1.9K more. Seat six folded and D’Alesandro made the call. The turn was the 4
. D’Alesandro checked and his opponent bet 4,325. D’Alesandro called and the river was the T
. D’Alesandro checked again and the other player bet 7.8K. D’Alesandro insta-called and said “eights.” He turned over 8

and the other player shook his head and mucked his cards. D’Alesandro now has 66K.
Sometimes you just get coolered and there’s nothing you can do about it. Rob “veeRob” Perelman handed one out just during Level 2. With the blinds at 100/200 a player in middle position raised to 500 and Perelman raised to 1.5K from the button. Action folded back around to the original raiser, who called. The flop came 9

and all of the chips went in like a flash: The original preflop raiser checked, Perelman bet 2.3K, his opponent check-raised to 5,000, Perelman moved all in, and his opponent called:
Perelman: 9

Opponent: 7

Perelman’s set of nines trumped the other player’s set of sevens and with the Q
turn and 6
river Perelman sent a player to the rail and chipped up to around 50K. He lost some before the dinner break but will return with about 38K.
Owen “ocrowe” Crowe (pictured at left) was given a penalty just before break and will have to wait two hands to take his seat when he returns. According to the dealer who explained to us what happened, the player in Seat 8 raised, Crowe put in a reraise and Seat 8 4-bet. Crowe decided to fold and his opponent slammed his K-J on the table, visibly ecstatic about the bluff he just pulled off. An irritated Crowe picked up the other player’s cards and whipped them at him. The floor was called over and Crowe was forced to sit out for one orbit while the other player missed one hand.
Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein was once as low as 11K, but after a few nice pots The Bear has battled back to a 30K starting stack. One such pot came when Greenstein opened to 600 with the blinds at 100/200. Three players called and everybody checked the J

flop. The turn card was the J
and the action checked to Barry who bet 2K. His three opponents mucked and Greenstein raked in the pot.
Johannes “busto_soon” Van Til is apparently busto now. The last we checked his seat was occupied by an elderly man, so unless Van Til has gone Phil Laak on us he’s most likely been eliminated.
The players are now on a 90-minute dinner break and will return around 6 p.m. to play two more levels tonight.
