Maddening Day for Staudenmaier by Brett on 06.18.09, 9:10 pm

Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier has had a trying day to say the least. Staudenmaier (pictured left) found out this afternoon that his e-mail and instant messenger accounts had been hacked and the passwords had been changed, meaning he couldn’t personally get ahold of any online poker rooms to protect his accounts. With the help of friend Jason “JCarver” Somerville, Staudenmaier spent most of the day on the phone informing people that he had been hacked while trying to reach Google, PokerStars and Full Tilt to let them know what happened.

We’re happy to report that after several hours of countless phone calls and emails Luke’s poker accounts have been frozen and he now has access to two of his three email accounts. An unfortunate part of the situation, however, is that Luke had registered for today’s $2K NLHE event. While he was trying to clean up the mess with his accounts his stack was being blinded off. With his mind obviously not focused on poker Staudenmaier decided to find his table and dump off his stack so that he could leave for the day. We caught all of the action and felt it was worth mentioning:

On the first hand Luke announced that he’d be moving his 4K stack in blind (with the blinds at 100/200). “If I double up I’m probably going to leave and come back in a few hours,” he told his tablemates. Luke open shoved without looking at his cards, everyone folded, and he turned over 35.

That opened a few eyes and created a lot of action the rest of the way. On the next hand Liya Gerasimova raised to 600 and Staudenmaier moved in blind again. Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg called from the button and Gerasimova then decided to call, having both covered:

Staudenmaier: K9
Friedberg: AA
Gerasimova: AK

Luke’s mood improved a little when the board ran out K956T. Friedberg laughed as he told a friend what had happened and Gerasimova lost a decent portion of her stack. But Luke decided he wasn’t done. A crowd started to form as he doubled up a player with Q7 against QT and then a huge four way all-in followed. Gerasimova raised from under the gun and Staudenmaier once again pushed his chips in. Two players called off their entire stacks and then Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith decided to play along as he moved his chips into the pot. Gerasimova hesitated before letting her hand go and a massive pot was on the line:

Staudenmaier: 97
Smith: AA
Player 1: AJ
Player 2: QQ

Staudenmaier picked up some outs on the T74 flop but was unable to crack aces for a second time when the turn and river bricked. Smith stacked a tower of 31K in chips, one of the biggest we’ve seen today. On Luke’s final hand he called a blind all-in shove from Gerasimova who, of course, had pocket aces. They held against his J2 and he walked out of the Amazon Room with Somerville.

We wish Luke the best of luck in getting everything worked out with his accounts.

Others eliminated in the last level were Brent “bhanks11″ Hanks, Haffa “haffizle” Khan and Tracey “XTraCey” Nguyen.

We also caught the final hand of the tournament for Bobby “gettindeep” Hodson over in the Brasillia Room. Hodson (pictured right) raised to 550 before the flop and got a call from the player to his immediate left in seat two. The flop was 972. Hodson led out for 800 with about 5.2K behind and seat two raised to 1.6K. Hodson moved all in and was immediately called. He knuckled the table before turning up QT. The other player showed KK. The turn was the 7 and the river was the 2 sending Hodson to the rail.

Shannon Shorr is seated at the same table as Christian “charder30” Harder in Brasillia. Shorr, who is sporting stack of over 20K called a raise of 600 before the flop with the blinds at 100/200. Three players saw a flop of Q65. The two other players checked and Shorr made a bet of 1.1K. The next player to act folded before the player in seat eight made the call. Both players checked the J on the turn as well as the 5 on the river. Shorr waited for seat eight to turn up his 9-high before tabling 6x-4x to take the pot. harder, meanwhile, has chipped up to 53K.

Half the field has been eliminated so far today. We’ll have a comprehensive list of chips counts for you when players go on their dinner break within the hour.

WSOP 2009 Event #35: $5K PLO

Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi is sitting behind one of the biggest chip stacks in the room over in the $5K PLO area. Mizzi looked to have about 275K in front of him at last check. Mizzi is seating at the same table as Mike “SirWatts” Watson (120K), Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy (170K) and Isaac “Mr. Menlo” Baron (240K). Justin “Boosted J” Smith is also still in the field with about 95K while Clayton “Clayton27” is on the short stack with about 45K.

There are 39 players left and 36 will make the money. Play will continue tonight until the final table has been reached. If that doesn’t happen, play will stop at 3 a.m.
