MacPhee Climbs the Charts by Brett on 06.22.09, 3:40 am

We didn’t see the hand, but it sounds like Kevin “ImaLucSack” MacPhee brought out the bulldozer in the past level of the $1.5K No Limit Hold ‘em event. MacPhee’s friend, Dylan “ImaLucSac” Linde, gave us the scoop:

With the blinds at 4K/8K a player in late position raised and MacPhee called in position. The flop brought J-6-3 with two diamonds. The original raiser bet 28K, MacPhee moved all in for 130K and his opponent thought for awhile before making the call with Q-J. MacPhee tabled pocket aces, which held up and increased his stack to more than 320K. He his since improved it to 405K as players went on their 30-minute break.

Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade eliminated a player at the same table shortly after. He raised to 20K from the hijack and the player on the button moved all in for 60K. Wade made the call with A-10 and got the better of his opponent’s pocket fours when he spiked a 10 on the flop. Wade is back above the 200K mark.

For those still up waiting on Zac “traction” Gilbert updates: We’re not ignoring him, promise. We just haven’t seen him do anything but raise and pick up the blinds — which isn’t a bad thing. We’ll camp out at his table during the next hour and try to catch something.

There are 45 players left. The average stack is 271K. Here are your remaining P5ers :

Shawn “sprstoner” Glines - 427K
Kevin “ImaLucSack” MacPhee - 405K
Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania - 332K
Zac “traction” Gilbert - 255K
Alex Jacob - 231K
Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade - 200K

WSOP 2009 Event #40: $10K PLO Championship

The money bubble is nearing and a short-stacked Tony Cousineau pots it from under the gun. You hold A4QQ. The Couz has put a third of his stack in. What do you do?

If you’re Matt “mattg1983″ Graham, you repot it at the 2.5K/5K blind level and it is basically enough to get Tony the rest of the way in. He holds? AAK9.

Graham actually got a bit of a sweat as the flop came down 853 to give him a gut shot straight flush draw to go with his queens. However, the turn and river came 8 then 9 so Cousineau’s aces held to take down the pot. After the hand, Tony surmised the situation:

“You know Tony C only raises with aces this close to the money bubble. That was a freebie for you! Okay, maybe I raise with kings there too, but I fold to the reraise.” Both Cousineau and Graham are still in the event. While Tony is still clinging to the short stack, Matt is sitting with 295K.

Matt “plattsburgh” Vengrin had a productive hour, jumping from 80K to 400K. We caught the tail end of one big hand in which a player with around 100K and Vengrin got it all-in on the river with the board reading K53T 3. Matt showed K-K-X-X for kings full, which had the best of the other player’s 10-10-X-X for tens full.

While it appears that Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has been eliminated, Noah “fouruhaters” Schwartz (700K) and Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein (215K) are still in the field. With 32 players left, the money bubble is quickly approaching. We wonder if Tony C will make it or not.

WSOP 2009 Event #42: $2.5K Mixed Game

God’s honest truth is that reporting on mixed games is hard. Come on, eight different games to keep track of? It’s kind of a lot. We could bring you extensive details of all the hands, or we could just give you some quick nuggets of info since this event is still in its early goings. For example, Brent “Astrolux85″ Roberts was eliminated on an Omaha H/L hand in which his dry pair of aces couldn’t fade the outs of Daniel Negreanu’s wrap after the remainder of Brent’s chips went in after the flop. Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar won a decent sized pot with aces up in Stud 8, taking a chunk of chips off Shannon Elizabeth and increasing his chip stack to 12.5K.

We can also relay to you word-for-word what we heard Bryan Micon say as we walked by his table: “I said I’ll get big in Germany, but I have to grow a pair of breasts? Really?” We’re note sure we really want to know what context that phrase was uttered in, but seems newsworthy to us nonetheless.

In lieu of hand recaps, we instead have an immense list of chip counts to tide you over until our next report:
