Luckless Level Nine by Brett on 06.02.09, 3:18 am

P5ers are falling fast in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha event. Christian “charder” Harder, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, Bill “Crazyhorse76″ Slaght and Aaron “ndgrinder59″ Steury have all hit the rail since the dinner break.

Several others, including Shannon Shorr, have taken big hits to their stack as the money bubble approaches in Level 9. We caught up with Shorr betting 7.3K into a pot of nearly 10K on a AQ49A board. The player on the button paused before raising all in for 17.6K more. Shorr, who normally has a puzzled look on his face while involved in a hand, looked especially flustered.

“Wow. I have queens full and I made a flush on the turn,” he said as he leaned back in his chair.

Shorr took three minutes before deciding to fold, showing his QQ. His tablemates appeared blown away by the laydown.

Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier’s Herculean stack became just a bit smaller when the tournament’s chip leader recently took a seat to his right. The two got involved in a pot right away. While his new adversary was still stacking up his chips he raised to 3K and Mercier called. The flop brought T75 and the chip leader checked. Mercier bet 5.5K and took the pot down when his opponent folded. Mercier now has 110K and the race for the chip lead begins.

Jeff “yellowsub” Williams lost a massive 46K pot when his overpair and nut flush draw couldn’t catch up to his opponent’s two pair when all of the money went in on the flop. Williams’ stack dipped to 12K.

Eric “E-Fro” Froelich was yet another player wounded during Level 9. Froelich and another player got all of their chips in preflop, with Froelich having him covered but well behind with KK77. His opponent’s AA64 held up when the board revealed AQ965 and Froelich lost a 30K pot. He was left with around 8K.

Hopefully things turn around during the last level of the night. Players will bag up their chips and head home in one hour . Here’s a look at the chip counts of those still alive with 95 players remaining:

Shaun Deeb - 34.5K
Matt “All In At 420″ Stout - 32K
Kevin “ImaLuckSack” MacPhee - 24.5K
Darryl “GoPhish” Dauenhauer - 23.5K
Nick “gbmantis” Niergarth - 19K
Tim “tmay420″ West - 16.8K

WSOP Event #4

Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar’s chip stack had dwindled in the hours leading up to the most recent break and when players returned he was sitting with only 60K. With the blinds going up to 4K/8K ante 1K he needed to double up…and fast. On the very first hand back from break Jon shipped it all-in from under the gun and a player in a hat bearing the logo for “Simple Auto Insurance” thought for a good minute or two before folding. It folded around and as Aguiar (pictured at right) mucked his cards a five was accidentally exposed. The man in the hat sighed and told the table he folded pocket tens. Jon and many others refused to believe his story, but maybe Aguiar’s self-proclaimed reputation as the “Allen Kessler of online poker” has spread to the world of random live players as well…

On the very next hand, a player in middle position opened to 15K and Jon moved all-in from the small blind for 57K total. The other player called with KQ and Aguiar showed AA. The board ran out T3325 and the aces held to double Aguiar up to 119K. As he was stacking his chips, he thanked the guy who folded his tens the previous hand one more time:

“I still don’t believe you had tens,” Aguiar said, “but thanks again for folding. When I win this tournament I’ll contact Simple Auto Insurance about doing some business with them if they operate in the Nevada area.”

Another player was less fortunate in his attempt to double up and keep pace with the rapidly increasing blinds. Dan Heimiller raised to 17K from middle position and Jamie “TheNew” Robbins reraised to 35K total, leaving himself around 85K behind. Heimiller eyed Jamie’s stack and then called. The flop came down T65 and Robbins (pictured at left) led out for 45K, leaving himself just under 40K behind. Heimiller moved all-in and Jamie counted his stack, checked his cards, and thought briefly before calling with QT for top pair. Heimiller showed AA and when the J on the turn and 5 on the river failed to help Robbins, he was eliminated. Other recent eliminations include Mike “Gags30″ Gagliano and Justin “lockdownpokah” Allen, who was knocked out after running into a couple of coolers.

Across the room Full Tilt Pro Amanda “MandyB” Baker has been steadily chipping up since dinner break. She had worked her way up to 150K when the following hand transpired: Steve “time4badbeat” Wagner raised to 14.5K from the hijack and the player in the cutoff moved all-in for 38.5K total. Baker asked for a count of the all-in player’s stack before reraising all-in, having Wagner covered by around 25K. Wagner folded and Mandy showed 88 while the other player turned up 77. The cards ran out AT426 and Baker busted the player and built her stack up to 200K.

Here are some chip counts from the most recent level of play:

Jamie “pokerjamers” Armstrong - 270K
Amanda “MandyB” Baker - 200K
Brandon “bgitty” Garrity - 190K
Justin “jurollo” Rollo - 159K
Rami “arbianight” Boukai - 140K
Shaundle “CrAzYSiXeS66″ Pruitt - 140K
Steve “time4badbeat” Wagner - 125K
Jon “FatalError” Aguiar - 118K
Jack “doctor_fun” Powell - 107K
