Liu, Veldhuis Eliminated From 10K PLO On Same Hand by Rachel on 06.21.09, 1:34 am

During the last level of the 10K PLO event, an epic five-way all-in hand was played and a couple P5ers were part of the action. When we walked up to the table a flop of J75 had been dealt and it looked like the playing in seat four, Nenad Medic and Lex “RaSZi” Veldhuis were already all in. The player in seat one then moved all in, leaving Eric “p3achy_keen” Liu (pictured at left) with a decision. He calculated the pot odds and said he was getting 5-to-1 on a call. He seemed hesitant but he eventually moved his stack in as well. Here are the hands:

Seat one: 9885
Liu: AKJ9
Seat four: JT98
Medic: 7543
Veldhuis: KKQ4

The turn was the 5 and the river was the 7. Medic quadrupled up with the best hand and seat four scooped the rest of the pot. Seat one had enough chips to stick around but both Liu and Veldhuis were eliminated from the event.

The players have been sent on a one hour dinner break. They’ll return at about 10:50 p.m. PST.

Approximate chip counts:

Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke - 85K
Adam “A_Junglen” Junglen - 65K
Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi - 52K
Mike “SirWatts” Watson - 48.5K

WSOP 2009 EVENT #39 $1.5K NLHE

It is amazing how fast these $1.5K fields shrink. In under nine hours of play, only 560 of the original 2,715 runners are still competing for a gold bracelet. The number will surely continue to shrink at a rapid rate until play is ended for the day.

A couple of short stacks doubled up in Event #39 since we last checked in. Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers (pictured at right) was around 8K when he stuck it all in from the big blind holding KK. He was called by an opponent’s AQ and faded an ace on the 873T5 board to more than double to 17K.

Carter “ckingusc” King is super short but refuses to go away. He shoved 2125 in the middle in early position and was called by the player in the small blind. King’s A5 was crushed by AJ. The A54 flop gave Carter two-pair though, and after the turn and river bricked he doubled to almost 5K.

Tracey “XTraCey” Nguyen doubled to 11.7K when her pocket fives (nuts) out-raced the AQ of her opponent, and Jeff “yellowsub” Williams got a little help with AJ and beat out AA to chip up to 14K.

Brent ”bhanks11″ Hanks just moved to Dutch ”havoj” Boyd’s table in the Amazon Room. The two were joking a bit when we passed, and since they are in the front of the Blue Section they will have a chance to enjoy each other’s company for the rest of the evening,

Unfortunately for Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania, the beat we saw him take during the last level has not been a rare occurrence at this year’s World Series. Charania had an opponent all in before the flop with his AA to the other player’s 99. The board came KK59T. The nine on the turn gave the other player a full house and Charania was left with about 20K in his stack.

“All summer,” Charania, “I can’t win an 80/20.”

Matt “All In At 420″ Stout (pictured at left) saw several players at his table limp before deciding to move all in for the rest of his short stack. He got one caller in the end and his T8 was behind the AQ of the other player. The board of KQ23J was no help and Stout was eliminated. We missed the hand but we also saw Aaron “NDGrinder59″ Steury making his exit during the last level.

Level 8 has just ended and after two more levels of play the remaining players will bag and tag their chips for tomorrow’s restart.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #36 $2K NLHE

Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith is currently heads-up for a WSOP gold bracelet in Event #36. Smith has about 5.5 million in chips and owns a slim chip lead over his opponent Ken Lennaard.
