For Kathy Liebert another World Poker Tour final table has ended without a title. Liebert was down to 3 handed play with Gavin Smith and Glen Witmer, and had Smith all in with a chance to go heads up against Witmer but the cards didn’t pan out for her.
Kathy had raised to 150k from the small blind and Gavin called from the big blind. On the A
J
3
flop Liebert bet 200k and Smith raised to 670k. Libert then moved in and Gavin took a brief pause before calling.
Kathy had middle pair and a flush draw with the Q
J
but Gavin had top pair with the A
9
. The board filled out with the 2
and the 3
and Gavin was able to double up to just under 4 million chips while Liebert was left with less than 4 big blinds as her stack fell to under 200k.
A few hands later the last of Kathy’s chips were all in against Glen Witmer. Glen had the Q
J
and had raised to 200k preflop. Kathy called her last 165k from the big blind and after that it was up to the cards. Liebert had the 8
7
and was live, but after the K
Q
3
flop her chances dropped tremendously and with the 5
on the turn there was no way for her to win the hand.
An emotional looking Kathy Liebert saw her 5th WPT final table appearance yet again come up a little short of the elusive victory. Liebert’s 3rd place brings $319,377 CAD and leaves Gavin Smith heads up against Glen Witmer.
Here are the chip counts to start heads up play:
Glen Witmer - 9,800,000
Gavin Smith - 3,850,000
