With just shy of 2,000 players spread out over Days 1A and 1B, Days 1C and 1D are going to have to pick up the slack if the Main Event is going to crack 6,000 entrants. It is definitely possible though and many people around the Rio are suggesting registration will break 6,300 at the very least. Keep in mind this is all speculation and we won’t know the final numbers until tomorrow.
In the meantime, we’ve got Day 1C about to kick off and it is definitely the biggest starting day thus far. Eric “Blizair” Blair (pictured right), Casey “sobizzle21” Sobczewski, Joe “Dyzalot” Morneau, Eric “Rizen” Lynch, Ben “bfineman” Fineman and Kenny “kenny rap” Weinstein are among those in the field. The schedule will be different today, which has resulted in mixed reactions from players: After Days 1A and 1B played four two-hour levels, Days 1C and 1D will play five two-hour levels in order to make enough room for the players that advance to Day 2B. Then on July 7 those that advanced to Day 2A will play five levels, and on July 8 the Day 2B players will play four levels. That way we’ll be all caught up going into Day 3. Yeah, we’re lost too. We’ll attempt to sort it out with a better explanation once one is available.
While we head out to start capturing the Day 1C action, please enjoy some of the official Day 1B end of day chip counts. We’ve provided the top ten finishers from the day as well as all the P5ers we could spot. The chip leader is P5er Brandon “b7zzy” Demes with 137,075. He won’t be the overall Day 2A chip leader, but Brandon will return Tuesday with the second biggest chip stack in the room. Nick “fu_15″ Maimone and Randy “Randers” Haddox are also towards the top of the Day 1B chip counts with 122,500 and 98,675 respectively.
