Kopp’s on Patrol by Rich on 06.24.09, 8:14 pm

At a point yesterday, Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp (pictured left) was short stacked after his aces were cracked by Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier’s KQ. Kopp plummeted below 20 big blinds, but battled throughout the day to regain his chips.

Now, on Day 2, Billy is among the chipleaders with 300K after a huge hand with Nenad Medic.

Medic raised to 8.5K from under the gun with the blinds at 1.5K/3K. Kopp called from the cutoff and the blinds folded. The flop fell J42 and Nenad checked to Billy. Kopp reached for chips and bet 14.7K. Medic tanked for a good bit before calling. The turn was the 9 and after mulling it over Nenad checked again. Billy grabbed a big stack of orange 5K chips, cut out seven and added a few more chips adding up to 39.6K. The bet was just short of the pot and Medic tanked again. Nenad made the call and the river brought the 3. Medic checked a third time and Billy immediately announced all-in. Kopp pushed his last 73.2K in the middle and Medic reluctantly made the call.

“You have queens?” Kopp asked him.

Medic did not answer but instead glared at Billy who tabled KK. Nenad mucked his hand and was eliminated by JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado soon after.

Kopp wasn’t finished. A few hands later David “Chino” Rheem opened to 8K from under the gun and Alex Jacob called all in having just 6.8K to his name, and Billy isolated in the big blind by raising pot. Rheem folded and the hands were tabled:

Kopp: JJ
Jacob: AQ

It was a classic race situation, but Jacob never got out of the gate. The flop fell JJ6 and quads were good enough to send Alex to the rail.

During the break we grabbed some chip counts:

Darryll “DFish” Fish — 326K
Davidi “legrouzin” Kitai — 300K
Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith — 240K (pictured right)
JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado — 170K
Chris “Genius28″ Lee — 156K
Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier — 120K
Christian “charder30″ Harder — 91K

WSOP 2009 Event #47: $2.5K Mixed Limit Hold’em

“Limit is unfun.”

Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade (pictured left) uttered these words when he was left with just 750 chips and the betting limits at 400/800 during the most recent LHE portion of the $2.5K Mixed Limit Event. He elaborated on his assessment of the game explaining, “they can limp with A-6 and you can’t get them to fold on any street so you have to have it every time.” It wasn’t A-6, but Tristan did manage to triple up shortly before the second break of the day when he was holding A-5. Action folded around to Wade in the cutoff and he raised all-in for his last 750. The player on the button called and Tristan jokingly said, “no protection, huh?” The player in the big blind decided to call as well and Tristan’s two opponents checked it down as the board ran out 998A3.

“How did I miss?,” the player on the button asked as he showed QT. Wade’s face lit up when he realized he scooped the pot and tripled up to nearly 2.5K.

“Just wait until the next No Limit round, ” Wade warned. “I’m gonna have 30K by dinner break.”

Across the room, Eric “EFro” Froehlich took a big hit to his stack during a 4-way hand that saw capped betting on several streets and had two other players all-in for their tournament lives. The board read QJ82A and Sabyl Cohen-Landrum fired once last bet on the river. Froehlich called and watched as Cohen-Landrm tabled QQ for a set of queens.

“You all can probably guess what I had,” Eric said. He added something about A-K as he mucked his hand, so we’re guessing he might have held AK and flopped a flush and straight draw combo that never panned out. Cohen-Landrum drug the huge pot, but Froehlich would chip back up just a couple of hands later against Shaun Deeb. Froehlich raised in early position and Deeb 3-bet him. Eric called and the two saw the flop come down 933. Eric check called a bet from Shaun on the flop and both checked when the 6 came on the turn. The river was the A and Eric bet out.

“How did you get that river?,” Deeb asked. He called, Froehlich showed A-J for a rivered pair of aces and Deeb mucked. Froehlich now sits with 13.5K while Deeb dropped to 7K.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #46 $2.5K LIMIT OMAHA 8

Shannon Shorr is stuck in reverse right now in Event #46. He tried to steal a pot with the board reading T26TJ, but was looked up by an opponent holding A-Q-T-4. Shorr’s A-K-5-5 was no match for trip tens and he dropped to 22K.

Also short are P5ers Sasha “bikocruz” Rosewood (16K) and JR “JR Hamilsbach” Hamilton (18K).
