Registration is finally closed and the numbers are in. We have 329 runners, 151 of which are still in with one more level to go before the end of the day. Perhaps people are looking to get it all-in and head to an early dinner, as we’ve reached that time when everyone seems to be getting it all-in.
Before we get to the tournament taking place here in Las Vegas though, we here at PocketFivesLive do want to send out a heartfelt congratulations to Chris “SLOPPYKLOD” Klodnicki who just took down the WSOP Circuit event in Atlantic City. Congrats Chris!
Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled programming:
One player who won’t be getting it all-in any time soon is Phil Ivey. Toddy Terry (pictured right) and Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin were joking that they either needed to fill the empty seat at their table with a massive fish or, well, Phil Ivey. Their table is arguably the toughest in the room with Yevgeniy “atimos” Timoshenko, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, David Chiu, John Juanda and Dutch Boyd all part of the line-up. They got their wish when the chip stack and registration slip of Phil Ivey was placed in the empty slot, but it was later removed when Ivey unregistered from the event.
Ivey may not be playing, but here are several substantial pots that did go down the past level:
Isaac “westmenloaa” Baron doubled up when he opened for a raise to 4,000 at the 800/1,600 ante 200 level and the player in the small blind called. The flop fell 9
6
5
and the small blind moved all-in for 32,000, having Baron’s last 23,200 covered. Baron thought for a while before calling with A
7
. His opponent showed 6
9
for two pair. The turn brought the K
to make Baron’s flush and the river 2
ensured his double up to 60,000.
Barry “barryg1” Greenstein (pictured left) took down a huge pot of his own when he opened to 4,000 and the player in the small blind called. The flop fell A
7
3
and the small blind checked. Greenstein bet out 5,000 and the other player called. The small blind check called a 13,000 chip bet from Greenstein after the J
fell on the turn. The river brought the J
and the other player led out for 20,000. Greenstein raised to 60,000, which was more than enough to put his opponent all-in. The other player called, showing K
Q
for the nut flush, but Greenstein revealed A
A
for aces full. At the end of the level, Greenstein was up to 210,000.
Some players who will not be returning for Level 9 include Bertrand “ElKY” Grospellier, Adam “csimmsux” Geyer and Hafiz “hafizzle” Khan. Grospellier busted when he shoved his last 18,000 or so all-in from the button with pocket deuces and the player in the big blind called with pocket nines. Geyer made his exit on the last hand before break when he shoved all-in for around 40,000 facing a raise and a re-raise from two other players. The initial raiser called, the reraiser folded and Geyer was behind with pocket nines to his opponent’s pocket tens. The board brought no help and Geyer made his exit.
Khan’s elimination came at the hands of Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi and a little bad luck. A series of preflop raises resulted in Khan calling all-in holding A
A
to Mizzi’s Q
Q
. The board ran out Q
6
4
3
T
and Mizzi’s set of queens sent Khan to the rail and sent his chip stack up to 240,000.  Other eliminations this past level include Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp and Christian “charder30″ Harder.
