Aptly considered to be one of the most dangerous players in the game, Marc “Myst” Karam found himself at his second North American Poker Championship final table in 3 years. Two years ago Karam’s final table appearance came up short with a 6th place finish. He cashed the tournament the next year, and this year put himself back at the final table. There was no redemption for Karam though. He bested his 6th place finish from 2006, but only by one spot and has been eliminated in 5th place.
Glen Witmer had opened for 200k and Karam (right) moved all in for 1.5 million. Glen made the call and the players turned up their hands. In the classic race Karam had pocket queens against the AK of Witmer. Earlier Karam and Kathy Liebert had been all in preflop, both with AK, and chopped the pot. Witmer took a commanding lead in the hand, leaving Karam drawing to a queen or running cards for a chop if a straight or flush came to the board. Neither happened and Karam was left with another almost at the NAPC. His 5th place finish brings $196,851 CAD.
