Jones Triples; Festa Down To Ten by Court on 10.25.09, 4:42 pm

The three shortest stacks to start the day were all able to win all in hands to survive in the early going on the playdown day and Larry Berg (right) ended up being the 11th place finisher in brutal fashion when he was all in with QJ offsuit against the QJ of Tommy Vedes. Two diamonds on the flop and another on the turn and Berg was eliminated.

At the same time there was an all in at the other table where Jason “StatusUp” Lavallee had Craig Crivello, who started the day as the shortest stack, all in. Craig had KJ and was running behind the pocket queens of Lavallee. The T-9-8 flop gave him more outs and a queen on the turn made a set for Lavallee but a straight for Crivello. The river 7 did not pair the board and Crivello was able to double up. With Berg out over at the other table once the Crivello double up hand was complete play as paused so the final 10 could be consolidated to one table.

Getting to the final 10 took just over an hour, but could have come a lot quicker had Aaron “aejones” Jones (left) not tripled up when he was all in and if Richard Sciuto hadn’t flopped a set in his all in hand. Jones moved all in after Tommy Vedes had opened for 80k and Shawn Cunix called. The all in was for 434k and both players called. Vedes checked before the flop came out and after the KQ3 were put out Cunix checked behind. The T turn drew another check from Vedes but Cunix put out a bet of 230k into a dry side pot. His bet pushed an unhappy Vedes out of the hand and Cunix was heads up with the all in Jones.

Aaron had pocket sixes with the 6 while Cunix had turned two pair with his QT. The river was the A, a beautiful card for Jones as it completed a spade four flush that tripled him up and gave him renewed life in the tournament. After the triple he was over 1.2 million in chips.

Before doubling Craig Crivello there had been another hand where it looked like Jason “StatusUp” Lavallee would put the field at the ten player mark. He had opened for 75k and Richard Sciuto moved all in for 434k. Lavallee called with pocket kings but the first card out on the flop was a deuce which hit Richard’s pocket deuces and gave him a set that doubled him up.

During the redraw for the final 10 exact chip counts were tallied for each player. Even after doubling a few players up Jason Lavallee has maintained a stack of over 4million and holds a sizeable lead over 2nd place Shawn Cunix.
