It wasn’t surprising to see action heat up early in the winner-take-all format of the $1,500 NLHE Shootout. Brent “bhanks11″ Hanks and John “JRD312″ Dolan both came up short in big pots to cripple their stacks early in the second round, while Tom “titantom32″ Braband was able to win a big hand to nearly double his starting stack.
We caught up with Dolan making a decision on a board of 9

3
8
Q
. He had bet the river and his opponent raised to 23K. Dolan called and saw the bad news: His opponent had J
T
for a straight flush. Dolan was left with 10K in his stack.
Hanks lost a 100K pot when he got all of his chips in with pocket aces on a Q-T-8 flop against pocket jacks. His opponent ended up making a set, cutting Hanks’ stack down to 6.6K, but Brent was able to double up with a little luck on his side in the next hand. Hanks moved all in from early position and the player in the big blind called:
Hanks: A

Big Blind A
Q
The board ran out K

and Hanks was back up to around 14.5K.
Braband was the first player to send someone to the rail. We missed most of the preflop action but a player moved all in preflop for 40K and Braband called with K
K
and appeared surprised when his opponent flipped over A
3
(blinds were just 250/500). Braband’s kings held and he is the early chip leader.
JC “prtypsux” Alvarado has been opening a lot of pots and making big hands but can’t seem to get paid off on them. In a hand versus Barry Schulman, Alvarado called a 2K bet on a board of K
Q
J
5
. The river brought the 9
and Schulman checked over to Alvarado, who bet 5K. Barry quickly folded, showing the T
and JC revealed his T
for a straight flush. “I’ve had quads, a flush and a straight flush,” said Alvarado. “I’ve gotten action and I’m still at my starting stack. How good am I?”
WSOP 2009 Event #20: $1.5K PLHE
Ravi “govshark2″ Raghavan has been eliminated from the $1.5K PLHE final table in 9th place. With blinds at 6K/12K Marc Tschirch raised to 30K from early position and Raghavan potted to 102,000 from the small blind with 34K left in his stack. Tschirch made the call and Ravi threw the rest of his chips in blind. The board brought T

8
and Tschirch called with his pocket jacks, which held up against Ravi’s pocket sevens and he was sent to the rail with $18,634.
Jason “TheMasterJ33″ DeWitt has taken over the chip lead after winning a nice-sized pot from Erik Seidel. He has close to 600K. The coverage can be seen on espn360 for those that didn’t know.
WSOP 2009 Event #21: $3K HORSE
Aaron “ndgrinder59″ Steury grinded his short stack long enough to take 14th place in the $3K HORSE event. He began the day at the bottom of the leaderboard with 21 players remaining and hung around long enough to make himself $14,209. Jared Okun, who finished 21st, made $8,782.
Zac “Zacpacker” Fellows is the chip leader with 11 to go. Stewart “StuMan23″ Yancik is hovering around the middle of the pack. We’ll be following the event until a winner is crowned later today.
WSOP 2009 Event #24: $1.5K NLHE
A couple of ladies are accumulating chips early in Event #24 $1.5K NLHE. A couple of days ago she was sweating her boyfriend Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers at the $5K final table, but now Anna “nyx86″ Marquez is trying her own luck on the felt. After scooping a small pot, Marquez proceeded to raise the next hand on the button to 375 with the blinds at 75/150. She received one caller from the big blind and the two took a flop of 7
6
2
. The player in the big blind bet 375 and Marquez called. The turn was the 7
and again her opponent led out, this time for 1K. Anna thought momentarily before asking for her opponents chip count. The man showed three yellows for 3K behind, and Marquez announced all-in. Before she could even put a single chip in the pot, her opponent folded. Anna is on a mini-rush, and with over 6K in chips she is above the starting stack.
Anna “vietcutie” Wroblewski may have busted on the last hand of the night in Event #23, but she is growing her stack early on today. On a K

board Wroblewski bet out her opponent to win a 3K pot, and the very next hand got it all-in with a different opponent. Both players held AK though, and the pot was chopped. Anna’s aggressive play has her nearing 7K in chips.
