There are only 51 more seats available for Event #39 today, and we presume that by the end of Level 2 this tournament will be sold out. During most $1.5K NLHE events the Rio is consumed by people, but as the Series nears the Main Event the crowds get bigger and bigger.

Every table in Brasilia is being used today for the first levels of the event, and seated at one of those tables is Carter “ckingusc” King (pictured left). While passing his table we heard him give this speech:

“You guys probably think I’m getting loose now, but I really only get aces and kings. I’m a very lucky guy.”

King was kind enough to pull us aside and tell the back end of the story. On one of the first hands of the day Carter was dealt two black aces and re-raised a player who min-raised in front of him. The player called and the flop fell 10-9-7. King didn’t like the flop but he bet and his opponent called. The turn was an ace and the two got it all in, the other opponent holding AK.

“He couldn’t get his chips in faster,” King told us. “I have top set, he’s drawing dead, that’s pretty cool.”

Carter is now above 9K in chips.

There are several other P5ers off to fast starts as well.  Garrett “GBecks” Beckman was the fortunate benefactor of Dennis Phillips’ stack when they got it all-in on an A54 board with Garrett holding 67 to Phillips’ A-Q.  Beckman bricked the turn with the K, but the 3 on the river made his straight and gave him the pot. He is now up over 7K.

Mike “goleafsgoeh” Leah is also quickly building chips.  When we spotted him towards the end of Level One he was already up to 8.5K.  We asked if he had busted someone to get all those chips.  “Nope,” he responded with a smile.  “I just win every hand.”

Players who aren’t smiling include Andy “BKiCe” Seth and Eric “whItE_mAmbA” Ladny.  Andy was eliminated on the third hand of play when he got it all-in on a Q-J-10-9 board with three diamonds holding pocket kings with the K against a player who had A5 for the nut flush.  Ladny pushed all-in on a 7-6-5 flop holding 4-5 and got called by a player who flopped a set of sixes.  Ladny failed to make his straight and the other player filled up on the river to send Eric packing.

Other players we spotted in the field include Tony “Bond18″ Dunst, Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier, Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers and Shane “Shaniac” Schleger.
