Jaffe Doing the Dirty Work

Jon Jaffe jumped to the chip lead early in the tournament, and since day 2 he has been at or near the top of the chip counts. The playdown day has been more of the same for Jaffe, and recently he has eliminated both Henry Doiban and Dimitri Haskaris to bring the field to only 7 players remaining and 1 elimination short of setting the TV final table.
Doiban went out in 9th place in an all in preflop situation where Jaffe had AQ against Doiban’s pocket tens. An ace on the turn was what it took to eliminate Doiban in 9th place for $44,606.
The much larger of the eliminations came when Jaffe took out his closest competitor in chips. The two big stacks went to battle when Jaffe raised to 72k and Haskaris make it 172k. Jaffe called and the fireworks came after the K

flop. Jon led out for 250k and Haskaris raised to 600k. Jaffe put in yet another bet taking the total up to 1 million and Haskaris then made the quick decision to get the rest of his stack in the middle. Jaffe called with the flopped nuts, holding the Q
J. Haskaris was still very much live in the hand though with his T
T making middle set and leaving him drawing to a full house or quads. He missed his outs on the turn and river and Jaffe was able to jump almost 4 million in chips while Haskaris saw his day come to a close.
For Dimitri Haskaris the day was a mix of highs and lows. He came in as one of the shorter stacks, quickly found himself in the chip lead, and then not too long later saw himself involved in a 4 million chip pot that spelled his demise, but had the cards fallen differently could have set him up for a serious run at the title. Instead, Haskaris earns the 8th place finish and the $58,148 that goes with it.
