Inching Up, Winding Down by Court on 12.14.09, 11:28 pm

The total tally of entrants at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic keeps increasing, though at a slower pace than earlier in the day.  With one level to go in the day it seems that anyone that has waited this long to get into the action will likely just wait another level and join the play sometime tomorrow before registration closes at the end of level 8.

The field is at the 290 player mark going into the last 90 minutes of play, with a handful of players already eliminated.  Scott Seiver won the 5k event leading up to the main but his run good didn’t carry over into the main event and he was eliminated midway through the first day.  Blair Hinkle has also vacated his seat, opening up a spot for one of the many late entrants today.

Markus “LURPED” Gonsalves had all his chips in the middle and was at risk, but his pocket kings were dominating the pocket queens he was up against and after his bigger pair held up he had double to around 110k to go into the 300 / 600 50 ante blind level that will be the last level for day 1 play.

Amit “Amak316″ Makhija (Right) also had all of his chips in the middle, but he was not called.  On a A423A board Tuan Le bet 11k and Makhija moved all in for around 42k.  Tuan went into the tank for more than a couple minutes before disgustedly slapping his cards into the muck, very briefly flashing what looked like two small spades for a low flush.  After raking in the pot Amit was up around 80k chips.

Darryll “DFish” Fish
has cracked the 200k mark and Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp is still sitting pretty with 180k.  Jon “PearlJammer” Turner has dropped back a bit but still has a strong 150k and James “mig.com” Mackey has built up to 140k.
