Live HORSE tournaments can be confusing. Although there is a card with the current game being played displayed on the table, both players and dealers make mistakes here and there.
Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier and Bryan Micon (pictured at left) witnessed one of these mistakes at their table in the $1.5K HORSE event. During a round of Omaha 8, the dealer dealt two down cards and then an up card. After a moment of confusion the dealer grabbed all the cards and gave them a wash.
“Sometimes I forget my own name during these tournaments,” he joked.
We’ve recently received word that Mercier was busted by Micon and Bryan is up to 24K.
Justin “Boosted J” Smith isn’t laughing. He was left with under 2K and got it all in during a round of Stud Hi with a J
showing. Shannon Elizabeth called with a 3 showing, and turned over two more threes. Smith was unhappy to see that Elizabeth was rolled up. “That’s great,” he muttered. The hands played out like this:
Elizabeth: 3-3-3-A-6-9
Smith: A-K-J-7-K-T
With one card left, Justin needed a king or queen to stay alive. Smith was dealt his down card, sweated it and quickly mucked making a quick exit.
Justin Bonomo was eliminated too. Bonomo was short too, and got it all in during Razz with A-3-9 against an opponent’s A-2-4. Bonomo caught another ace and a jack on the next two streets, and his opponent was dealt a five an an eight.
Bonomo was drawing dead, eliminating him from the tournament.
Eric “jakz101″ Crain and Mike Sexton are busto too.
Day 1 has come to a close and the 240 remaining players will return to the Rio tomorrow afternoon to play down to a final table or until 3 a.m.
Here are some notable chip counts:
Annie Duke — 21.3K
Barry Greenstein – 15K
Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade — 11.5K
Anna “vietcutie” Wroblewski — 10.5K
Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire — 9K (pictured at right)
Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich — 8K
WSOP EVENT #28: $1.5K NLHE
As the players in the $1.5K NLHE event were bagging up their chips for the night, Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson told us that he thought he been in six all-in pots with more than 250K in them over the course of the 13-hour day. He won one.
The most important thing for Johnson is that he won the last one. With the blinds at 6K/12K, Johnson moved all in pre-flop for 143K total after being re-raised by the player in seat two. The other player made the call and Johnson showed Q

The board came A

and Johnson got a much-need double up. He will have 275K entering play tomorrow, a big jump from the 60K he said he was down to at one point.
Jason “JP_OSU” Potter come back as one of the biggest stacks in the room. He bagged 929K at the end of the night but wasn’t happy he dropped below the million-chip mark after losing the final two hands of the evening.
“Is it wrong to have a bazillion chips and be tilted?” he asked Johnson, who shook he head with a smile and said no.
Jake “TheMuffin” Solis (pictured at left) also lost a few small pots during the last level but finished with 374K.
The remaining 27 players will return at 1 p.m. tomorrow to play down to a winner.
