Heads Up Play by Court on 04.25.09, 11:49 pm

After the first 40 hands of heads up play Yevgeniy “Atimos” Timoshenko (left) has been able to consistently whittle away at Ran Azor and continue to add to his chip lead.  Going into heads up play Timoshenko had roughly 23 million chips to the 10 million of Azor, but now he has built up to 26.5 million while Azor has dropped to around 7 million.

The two players are playing at the 120k / 240k level.  So far the day has been a steady upward climb for Timoshenko with no significant bumps in the road.  Almost eerily similar to the run Gus Hansen had last year in this even where he dominated the final table right down to heads up play where he had a huge chip lead over David Chiu.  Chiu was able to mount one of the best comebacks in the history of heads up battles on the WPT and Ran Azor is being given the chance to duplicate Chiu’s feat tonight but will have to overcome a calm and confident Timoshenko.
