Gray, Welch eliminated; Seth chipleader of $1.5K by Rachel on 06.13.09, 6:46 am

Right after the players returned from their final break of the night Craig “MrCasino” Gray and Glenn “TheGFactor” McCaffery played a pot together at their table in the orange section. We missed the hand, but McCaffery told us that he raised to 38K in early position and action folded to Gray who shipped his 270K stack all in. Glenn made the call with A-Q and Craig held 99. The flop ofT42 was big for McCaffery despite not making a pair because he held the only diamond. The A on the turn gave Gray only one out which he missed on the river. Craig busted in 24th place, receiving $17,753. McCaffery chipped up to more than 800K but finished the night with 737K after being four-bet all in on one of the last hands of the night.

Ryan “gutshtallin” Welch is all out after shoving his stack all in from the small blind holding KQ. The big blind woke up with AQ and called. There was an ace on the A82 flop, but Welch picked up a club flush draw. The turn was black, but it was the 5, and the 3 on the river was no help to Ryan either. Welch left us in 23rd place and he too will take home $17,753.

Andy “BKiCe” Seth set a trap and was on the winning end of the biggest pot of the tournament. Action folded to Seth in the small blind who completed the 16K big blind. Ernst Hermans, who had been very active, raised the action to 30K. Andy tanked, but he then reached for a stack of green 25K chips and raised to 106K. Without thought Hermans announced all-in and Seth snap-called. The hands were tabled:

Seth: KK
Hermans: AJ

The flop was 773d} and the 4 on the turn eliminated the A from Ernst’s outs. The 6 on the river gave Andy a winning flush, and he raked in a pot worth over 1.2 million chips. Seth cruised from there, ending the night with 1.407 million.

Nineteen players will return tomorrow at 1 p.m., and they will play until there is a champion. Andy Seth is the chip leader going into the third and final day and McCaffery is safely in the middle of the pack.

WSOP EVENT #27: $5K PLO H/L

Jason “treysfull21” Mercier was moved to the same table as Mike Matusow at the end of the day in the $5K Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low event, and he definitely heard from “The Mouth.”

After telling us that he was just sitting at his table, blinding away, Mercier jokingly asked the dealer, “Can I get one ace down here…just one?”

Matusow, who has routinely been going on about how bad other players play Omaha Hi-Low, even saying at one point that the only reason he hasn’t written a book about how to play the game is that he has to be able to make money somewhere, told Mercier. “If you get dealt aces or ace, ace (and) babies, I promise you’ll do OK.”

The very next hand Mercier raised to 2.2K and Matusow made the call on the button.

“The hottest player in the world,” Matusow said of Mercier. “I’m going to take (him) on right now.”

The flop was QJ7. Mercier led out for a bet and Matusow folded.

“Mistake No. 1,” Matusow said, “Never take the hottest player in the world on heads-up.”

Another player at the table then mentioned that Mercier had complained about not getting any cards just before the hand prompting more from Matusow.

“Oh,” he said. “The hottest player in the world got a whine in,” acting as if it was no wonder Mercier had gotten some chips off him.

“It’s been over a week,” Mercier said, referring to his bracelet win. He then suggested that maybe Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier was hotter than him. Matusow insisted that Elky was old news and Mercier was new news.

“I hope it never ends for you,” Matusow said. “But it’ll end.”

He then offered a bit of advice.

“Stay humble,” he said. “Don’t go challenging the world like ‘durrrr.’”

Mercier was put to the test by another player at the table at the end of the night. With more than 20K in the pot, Mike Baxter made what looked to be a pot-size bet on the river on a board of T84J6. The decision was for basically all of Mercier’s remaining chips, and he took his time before acting. He eventually decided to fold.

“You have a flush and a low?” Mercier asked. Baxter, though, stayed true to the nickname Phil Laak bestowed on him on High Stakes Poker and kept silent. Mercier bagged 25.1K at the end of the night, just about half the chip average of 49.5K with 60 players remaining.

Senovio “Dorsal Fin” Ramirez played a couple of big pots in the final two levels of the night.

We caught Ramirez chipping up to just over 150K when his AAK3 busted another player on a board of K87 AQ. Then, shortly after he was moved to a new table, the following hand happened.

We’re not sure who did the raising but Ramirez and another player were in for 2.5K before seeing a flop of A93. Ramirez led out for 6K and the other player re-potted to 24K and change. After some thought Ramirez made another pot-size re-raise to put the other player all in. He made the call and they flipped up their cards:

Ramirez: AJ83
Seat seven: AT54

Ramirez was with two pair and the better club-flush draw for the high half of the pot while the other player had a better low draw. The turn was the 7 and the river was the 6 giving the player in seat seven a straight for the high half of the pot and A-3-4-6-7 for the low half of the pot. He was left with just about 100K after the hand but managed to rebound to 134.2K to end the night among the chip leaders.

Scott “BigRiskky” Clements found himself all in on the turn against John Racener during the final level of play. The board read Q849 when the cards were revealed:

Clements: 9988
Racener: AK2-3x

The river was the A and the players split the pot. Clements ended the night with 58.8K while Racener finished with 66K.

Stewart “Stuman123″ Yancik (95.2K) and Mike Sexton (25K) will also return for the 2 p.m. restart tomorrow. Mike “SirWatts” will not. He busted at the end of the night.

WSOP EVENT #25: $2.5K OMAHA AND STUD H/L

Jon “PearlJammer” Turner finished the night in the $2.5K Omaha Hi-Low/Stud Hi-Low event with 465K. Turner had a fantastic end to the night, including a stud win without a showdown. In order to ease confusion, we’ll go ahead and tell you the boards for both players before recounting the action with the limits at 5K/10K.

Turner: X-X-Q4JK
Seat Six: X-X-A8QT

We caught up with the action on fourth street. Turner led out for a bet and was called. On fifth street, Turner checked. His opponent put out the 10K bet and Turner raised to 20K. The other player called and the player we’re dealt their final up card. Turner led out again with a bet and his opponent decided to fold.

While we won’t have official chip counts for a while, we believe that Turner will be the chip leader with 14 players remaining at the start of play on Saturday.
