A Good Ending To Day Two For Somerville

“Not a bad way to end the night,” Jason “JCarver” Somerville (pictured at left) said to us as he finished bagging up his chips for the day. We’d have to agree after watching him pull in a 100K pot on the last hand before play concluded.
We caught up with Somerville betting 40K into an 80K pot on a board of T

94. Three other players were involved in the hand. The first to act made the call, and the next took close to four minutes before folding. The last player had about 20K left and put his head into his hands. “I don’t want to come back Friday with this,” he said as he picked up his stack. The player tossed his chips into the pot and flipped over 8
7 for trip eights. No good, sir. Somerville tabled QJ for the nut straight and the third player showed K9 (what?) for two pair. Somerville is now among the chip leaders with 289.6K heading into Day 3.
Mark “markysals11″ Salinaro (pictured at right) was left with a puzzled look on his face after his opponent raised from the button, Mark reraised from the small blind and his opponent flat called during one of the last hands of the night. Salinaro led out for what looked like a half pot bet on the 632 and the other player instantly moved in. Salinaro had him covered, but quickly passed and mucked his hand. His opponent then proudly showed 37. We weren’t quite sure if the other player was showing the bluff or proving he had the best hand, but it left everyone at the table pretty puzzled.
Patrick “BigRed0000″ Stemper and Josh “brikdog24″ Brikis played another pot together as the night was winding down. Stemper made a min-raise from the button and Brikis told us he re-raised from the big blind with K-Q. The flop was QJ9. Brikis made a bet and Stemper called. The turn was the 5. Brikis bet 8K and Stemper called again. The river was the 9. Brikis made another bet, which looked to of about 10K, and Stemper made another quick call. Brikis was surprised to see Stemper turn over A-Q to take the pot. Stemper ended the night with 166K a short time later while Brikis finished with 136K.
It was Christmas come early for Scott “gunning4you” Seiver’s earlier, but his stack started to dwindle and he eventually busted. Scott pushed his last 16K in the middle with A9 and an opponent looked him up holding AJ. The board ran J75TK and Seiver hit the rail. Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar was also eliminated during the final level of the night.
Thursday will be a day off for the players before the entire field comes together for the first time on Friday for day three. Below is a list of end-of-night chip counts.
