Giddy Up! by Jessica on 06.10.09, 12:06 am

Several P5ers have decided to give the evening HORSE event a go even though they haven’t played the game all that often in their lifetime.  During the first break, Dan “Wretchy” Martin told us his entire table was making fun of how terrible he was, yet he has somehow managed to work his 9K starting stack up to 13K already.  We should probably also mention that Dan’s tablemates include Billy Gazes, Bill Chen, and Chad Brown.

One of our players was smart enough to realize her HORSE shortcomings and quickly found herself a coach.  Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck and Darus “BejoMas” Suharto (pictured left) are seated side by side in the tournament and both couldn’t be happier about it.

“I can’t tell you how excited I was to see he was sitting next to me,” Mayrinck explained.  “This is my first live HORSE tournament so he is giving me tips as I go an dhelping me win chips.”

Darus didn’t seem unhappy with the situation himself.  “She’s the prettiest woman in the room, of course I was happy to be seated next to her,” he said with a big smile.  Maria siad that he had been taking a bunch of chips off of her in the early goings of the event, but that it was alright since his advice was helping her to win pots off other people to get them back.

Jon Wein is also seated with someone who knows what he is doing–Nicky Frangos.  Unfortunately for Wein, Frangos doesn’t seem to be as open and willing to provide him with some tips.  Jon said he was down to 5K from his 9K starting stack after picking up A-2-3-5 in a multi-way razz pot only to brick out with K-J-J, but he appears to have recovered and now sits with 8.5K, close to the starting stack.

Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar also had an unfortunate table draw after registering late for the event.  His tablemates include Nick “The Takeover” Schulman, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, John Juanda, and Roy Winston.  “I think the only player I’m better than is the empty seat,” Jon joked.

WSOP 2009 Event #18: $10K Omaha Hi/Lo Championship

We are down to five-handed play in the Omaha event and Daniel Alaei has taken over the chip lead. Another Daniel, Daniel Negreanu is right on his heels, while Scott “BigRiskky” Clements has dropped to 3rd in chips.

WSOP 2009 Event #19: $2.5K Six-handed NLHE

Brock “t_soprano” Parker is on a mission to make some history in the $2.5K Six-handed NLHE event. Parker eliminated two P5ers in the past hour to take a the tournament chip lead. He is inching closer toward becoming the first player to win back-to-back WSOP events since Mark Seif in 2005.

Shaun Deeb was the first to get whacked. Deeb had 150K chips at the dinner break but Parker took all of them when both players got it all in preflop, Deeb’s JJ behind Parker’s QQ. The board ran out 7534 and Parker’s stack increased to around 500K.

Jeff “ActionJeff” Garza’s 250K stack was shipped over to Parker not too long after. With blinds at 1.5K/3K Parker raised to 8K from the cutoff and Garza (pictured right) reraised to 26.5K from the small blind. The big blind folded and Parker asked for a count of Garza’s chips before putting in a four-bet to 81.5K. Garza quickly moved all in and Parker snap-called:

Parker KK
Garza: AQ

The K53 flop gave Brock a small sweat but his set of kings held and his tower of chips grew even taller. One of his tablemates asked, “running good?” Brock smiled, as if to say “maybe a little.”

There are 47 players remaining and the quest to play down to the final nine tonight looks bleak. With the average stack at 170K here’s a look at the P5ers still in the field:

Brock “t_soprano” Parker - 735K
Brett “threatnasty” Switzer - 300K
Jay “SEABEAST” Kincade - 190K
Clayton “clayton_27″ Newman - 185K
Sasha “bikocruz” Rosewood - 135K
Andy “BadgerPro” Schultz - 90K
Russell “rcrane082985″ Crane - 55K
