Friends Don’t Let Friends Double Up by Jessica on 06.21.09, 8:14 pm

We thought Isaac Haxton (pictured right) and Scott “gunning4you” Seiver were enjoying each other’s company, but perhaps we were mistaken.  We watched as Haxton got it all-in against another player on a queen-high flop holding A-Q to another player’s Q-8.  The ace kicker held and as Isaac stacked his chips Scott stood up, made a disgusted face, and let out a noise that can be best described as “hiiyugghh”.  In his defense, Seiver has lost a portion of his once ample chip stack and is now pretty evenly stacked with his other three opponents, Haxton included, so the fact that the player he is likely most concerned about is still at the table and newly doubled might be a little frustrating.

Amit “amak316″ Makhija is pretty even with the other big stack at his 3-handed table, but that could’ve easily changed had the following hand played out a little differently:  With the blinds at 250/500 ante 50 the other big stack bet out 1,525 from the small blind after the flop came A87.  Makhija called and they both saw the turn fall 9.  The other player bet out 3.8K and Amit once again called.  The river was the 5 and the small blind fired 6,550 chips, which Makhija calmly called.  His opponent showed the dead man’s hand, A-8 for aces and eights, which had Makhija’s A-7 for aces and sevens just bested.

“I should’ve lost all my chips on that hand,” Amit commented afterwards.  “Thankfully, I decided to slowplay and then the board got a little scary.”  Though he took a bit of a hit on the hand, he is still holding strong at 75K.

Several players have hit the rail this last level, including Shannon Shorr.  We missed the preflop action, but it appeared as if a poorly-timed small blind steal cost Shannon the bulk of his already short stack.  He and the player in the big blind got it all-in preflop for the big blind’s remaining 5,725 chips with Shorr holding 8T to the other player’s A9.  The board ran out K7294 and Shorr was left with only 2.3K.

Shorr moved all-in from the button on the next hand and the same player who just doubled up called him out of the small blind.  The other player’s A-J  had Shannon’s A-5 in bad shape and when Shorr failed to outdraw his opponent he was eliminated.  Joining him on the rail are Joe Sebok, Jon “FatalError” Aguiar, Owen “ocrowe” Crowe, Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker, Phil “USCPhildo” Collins, Adam “csimmsux” Geyer, Aaron Been, Eric “EFro” Froehlich, Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little, and Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers.

Here are some other updates from around the room as the shootout continues on:

4.5 and 4 Handed Tables

-Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar and Daniel “amichaiKK” Makowsky are 4.5 handed at their table with Phil Ivey.  Makowsky appears to be the chip leader while Vivek is in the middle of the pack.

-Scott “r_a_y” Montgomery holds a substantial chip lead.

-Blair “blur5f6″ Hinkle and Justin “fluffdog” Filtz are at a fairly evenly stacked 4-handed table.

-Matt “ch0ppy” Kay is sitting second in chips at his 4-handed table.

3.5 and 3-Handed Tables

-David “Bakes” Baker (pictured left) is holding on to a pretty hefty chip stack of 80K at his 3.5 handed table.

-Steven “zugwat” Silverman is the lone P5er left at our P5s Feature table.  Not counting the unattended stack, Steve is the short stack while Marco Traniello holds the chip lead.

-Lex “RaSZi” Veldhuis is rid of Owen “ocrowe” Crowe and is the substantial chip leader at his 3-handed table with Phillipe Rouas.

Heads-Up

-Ryan “youngluc” Young is pretty even with his opponent at the start of heads-up play at their table.
