After the first level of play on day 3 the field has dropped to only 144 players, and Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman is not one of them. Scott was involved in a big hand with John Phan where he had a lot of chances to win a big pot, but what he needed didn’t materialize and he found himself crippled with a stack of only just over the big blind and was eliminated soon after. At the table Phan had been playing a majority of the pots, far and away the most active player at the table. Phan even commented himself at one point that he was playing more hands than everyone else put together.
In the hand where he lost the majority of his 90k stack Freeman (right) had raised to 10,600 after Phan opened for 3,200. Phan called the raise and on the A
6
5
flop Scott led out for 14,600 and Phan called. With the J
on the turn Scott checked the action to Phan who bet 17k. Freeman then moved in for roughly 65k and Phan made the call. John had the A
Q
for top pair while Freeman had the Q
J
for a flopped flush draw and turned middle pair. He needed a heart or a jack on the river to win the hand, but with the 9
Phan was able to capture the 180k pot and leave Freeman with only a stack of the 100 denomination chips left in front of him.
A few hands later after a few players limped Mickey Mills raised to 7,700 and Scott put his last 1,600 in the pot. Everyone else folded and Freeman’s tournament life was on the line with his JT against the pocket kings of Mills. The kings held up and Freeman made his exit from the tournament, mentioning that the next major live tournaments he will play could be the World Series this summer.
Running hot continues to serve Kofi “redsoxsox” Farkye well. After making an aggressive play preflop he ended up being priced in to call an all in with the 5
2
he had opened and then 4-bet with. The player he had all in had AQ, but with a deuce on the river Farkye made a pair to win the pot and bust the other player, pushing his stack into the mid 400k range.
Mohsin “ChicagoCards1″ Charania took a hit to his stack when Hoyt Corkins picked off a bluff from Charania. On a Q-J-T-9-7 board Charania bet less than half of the 50k in the pot and Hoyt ended up calling with AJ. Charania mucked his cards, saying he had 6 high as Hoyt pulled in the pot. Charania was left with around 50k after the hand.
