EFro Eliminated, Schlein Slipping by Jessica on 06.26.09, 12:03 am

Shortly after the final 27 players redrew for the last three tables in the $2.5K Mixed Hold’em Event, a short-stacked Eric “EFro” Froehlich (pictured right) found an opportunity to ship in his remaining 47K with the blinds at 2K/4K ante 500. The player to his immediate left thought briefly, got an exact count, and called, leaving around 80K behind. It folded around to the player in the small blind who then moved all-in for around 120K total and the other player decided to call. Here is what everyone had:

Froehlich: KQ
Opponent 1 (on Froehlich’s left): JJ
Opponent 2 (in the small blind): KQ

Eric got some hope when the flop fell Q46, but the turn and river came 34 to give the 300K pot to the man with the kings, leave the third player with only 2K, and send Eric for the door somewhere in the vicinity of 25th place.

The field has quickly condensed from 27 to 21 over the course of 30 minutes. Randy “Randers” Haddox (290K) and Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein (340K) are still in the field and are currently seated at the same table.

WSOP 2009 Event #46: $2.5K Omaha H/L

After spending most of the day towards the top of the leaderboard, Josh “SDouble” Schlein (pictured left) has been headed in the wrong direction. With the betting limits at 25K/50K Schlein raised from under the gun and the player in the big blind called. The flop fell AQ9 and the big blind checked to Josh, who quickly bet out. The other player just as quickly called and they were off to see a 3 on the turn. The other player once again check-called Schlein’s bet. The river was the J and both players checked.

“Threes and Nines,” announced Schlein without revealing his hole cards. The other player then flipped up K-K-Q-J for queens and jacks, which was good enough to scoop the entire pot.

The very next hand Schlein called a raise from his own big blind and he and his opponent saw a flop of 764. Josh check-called a bet from the initial raiser and led out after the 5 fell on the turn. The other player called and the two saw the 2 fall on the river. Schlein once again led out and his opponent quickly raised. Schlein called and showed A23K for the nut low and a six-high straight. His opponent held A356 for the same nut low and a straight to the seven. Schlein was quartered and now sits with 370K, good enough for 4th place out of the six remaining players.
