Not to be ignored is Event #8 $2.5K No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw, which is taking places in the Brasilia Room. Among the 148 entrants are PocketFives’ own Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Justin “fluffdog” Filtz, Mike “SirWatts” Watson, Shaun “sbuck21″ Buchanan, Tracy Nguyen and Jon “PearlJammer” Turner. Unfortunately, we’ve received word that Fricke has been eliminated by chip leader Mike “The Mouth” Matusow.
In 2-7, the first player into the pot must raise. If there is a caller, the players may draw once. The best hand is 2-3-4-5-7, flushes and straights do not qualify. Since re-buy events have been removed, this is a re-buy/add on event. Each player has the option to rebuy up to two times before Level 4 or, if the player chooses to, they can add-on twice after Level 3. The players were given the rebuy/add-on chips before the start of tournament, which were included in their original buy in.
We caught a hand on Table 235 where Shaun “sbuck21″ Buchanan raised the action pre-flop. Buchanan was called by Las Vegas-legend Archie Karas in the big blind. Both players drew one card. Karas checked and Buchanan bet, prompting Karas to briefly tank. Archie made the call, and Buchanan rolled over a pair of nines. Karas showed his hand which appeared to be jack high, and scooped the pot. After the hand Howard Lederer asked Buchanan, “You think you could out play him?”, referring the the famous Karas. Buchanan shrugged and let out a smile as the table laughed. The players have just hit Level 4, and any add-on chips remaining have been used.
Over in the $10K World Championship Seven Card Stud event, Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis was eliminated by Chad Brown just short of the money.
WSOP EVENT #5: $1.5K PLO
Daryll “GoPhish” Dauenhaur is still alive in the $1.5K PLO event. We had incorrectly thought he had busted earlier.
WSOP EVENT #7: $1.5K NLHE
There are still 640 players alive in the first day of the $1.5K NLHE event.
Shaun Deeb raised 1,025 in middle position and, after much thought, seat four decided to call. The small blind then re-raised. The big blind folded and Deeb raised again. The player in seat four folded and the small blind went all in for only about 3.5K more. Deeb made the call and showed his K
2
and his opponent had 7
7
. The flop of K
9
6
put Deeb in the lead and the T
turn and 3
river didn’t change anything. Deeb looks to have almost 30K now.
Scott “SCTrojans” Freeman made an called a short stack’s all in for 1,550 and was probably surprised to find his K
K
behind his opponent’s A
A
. There was a king on the flop for Freeman as well, though, as the board ran out K
Q
4
T
5
. Freeman busted the player and appears to have around 35K.
Freeman is seated at a table with Jeff “jeffboski” Sluzinsky as well as P5er Tony “tonyd7″ Darnell. Chris “moorman1″ Moorman was also at the table but recently busted.
Brandon Cantu is sitting with one of the biggest, if not the biggest stacks in the room, but he recently took a hit. Cantu raised to 1,125 before the flop and the button called. The flop was J
T
7
and Cantu tossed in a stack of yellow chips worth 1000 each. It was enough to essentially put the other player all in and he decided to commit the rest of his stack. Cantu’s Q-J was ahead of his opponent’s 10-8. The turn was a safe 7
for Cantu, but the river was the 9
, completing the player’s inside straight draw and sending a ~20K pot his way.
The last time we checked on Austin “leet8s” Frenkel he was also sitting with a big stack of 34.4K.
