Double Ups, Bust Outs, and Fashion Statements by Jessica on 06.28.09, 9:48 pm

Let it be known that Jason “JCarver” Somerville (pictured left) sent us over to his friend Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar’s table purely because he wanted us to take in his outfit: A button down shirt, gray sweatpants, and some delightful sandals. Vivek was also sporting some new specs today of which Jason had a less than stellar opinion. Unfortunately, before we could really take in the glory of the ensemble or take a picture for that matter, the following hand transpired:

With the blinds at 150/300 a couple of players had limped into a pot and Vivek overlimped from middle position. The player in the hijack then raised 1.5K total and it folded around to Rajkumar, who moved all-in for 10.8K more. The other player called with AQ, which was racing with Vivek’s 99. The Q33 flop gave Rajkumar’s opponent the lead and when the 5 on the turn and 3 on the river failed to improve his hand Vivek was eliminated.

Joining him on the rail is Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul. Saul lost most of his stack when Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi moved all-in from the hijack for 3,275 and Kevin called from the small blind. Kevin flipped up the K as he said call and followed the announcement by adding, “I only looked at this one.” His other card, the Q wasn’t that bad either, but he was up against Sorel’s A6. The ace high held as the board ran out J5592 and Mizzi doubled up to 7K while saul dropped to around 500 chips. Kevin managed to mount a small comeback and double up, but it didn’t take long before he was heading for door as well.

Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp is still clinging to his tournament life after he got his last 1K or so all-in preflop holding pocket fours to another player’s AQ. The KJ6 flop left Kopp with quite a few outs to dodge, but the 4 on the turn helped to leave his opponent drawing a little slimmer. The 9 on the river sealed the double up for Billy, but he is still pretty short with around 2K.

David “Doc Sands” Sands also got a double up recently courtesy of Jason “TheMasterJ30″ Dewitt and a little good fortune. Dewitt raised to 700 from middle position, the player on the button called, and Sands called form the big blind. Sands shoved his last 4,475 chips all-in on the T53 flop and Dewitt called while the other player folded. Dewitt had the best of it with QQ to Sands’ 9T, but a T on the turn and 9 on the river gave David a boat and the pot. He is up to 11.5K while Jaosn dropped to 9K.

Justin “jurollo” Rollo took a hit to his stack when he bet out 1.5K on a board reading J33AQ and the other player in the hand threw out what looked like four yellow 1K chips. Rollo called and learned opponent held JJ for jacks full. He showed the table his A-Q before tossing it into the muck. He is down to 7.5K.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #53 $1.5K STUD HI/LO

Event #53 has kicked off in the Brasilia Room. There are currently 420 players registered, but we assume there will be a few more by the end of Level 2.

Bryan Micon is seated with stud-specialist Nicky Frangos. The two are sharing some interesting stories with one another. Micon is explaining the use of hot-keys in the online world and Frangos is spinning tales about the legendary Phil “No-Home Jerome” Ivey.

Micon was involved in an interesting hand while we were visiting. Four players were dealt a down card on seventh street after each previous street had been bet. “Everybody think of a card,” Frangos joked. Full Tilt pro Diego Cortovez led out for a bet and Micon and another player called. Diego, who was showing 2Q3K, rolled over 4-5-6 and scooped the pot with a six-high straight and a six-five low.

Cory Zeidman and Justin Bonomo both won nice sized pots. Zeidman scooped his with a seven high straight and a seven-six low, and Bonomo won his without a showdown.
