Double Your Pleasure by Rich on 07.12.09, 4:10 pm

Day 5 is underway here at the Rio and a couple of P5ers have benefitted from early double-ups

When we arrived at Table 82 in the Orange Section, Blair “blur5f6″ Hinkle had Jesse “thor” Haabak (pictured left) all in and both players tabled their cards. Haabak held KK which dominated Hinkle’s 99. The board ran 422AK and in just a few hands Jesse doubled his 551K stack to 1.1 million. Hinkle took a hit, but still has 900K.

Kyle “kwob20″ Bowker also held pocket nines in an all-in situation for his tournament life. It was a coin-flip though, with his opponent holding AQ. The J74 flop was good for Bowker, but the K on the turn gave his opponent even more outs. Bowker managed to fade a ten, a queen, or an ace with a river J to double him up to 225K. After the hand his tablemate Paul “comeonphish” Lieu reached over and put his hand on Bowker’s chest to measure his heartbeat.

“Yep, it is a little fast,” Paul said with a smile. Bowker then felt his heart rate himself before stacking his chips and getting ready for the next hand.

Clayton “clayton27″ Newman also got himself all-in for his tournament life in a coin flip situation. Newman moved all-in from middle position for his last 88K and David Levi thought for minute before calling on the button, leaving 30K behind. The blinds folded and the two players turned up their cards. Newman turned up his 88 while Levi held AQ. Newman gathered his belongings to prepare for his impending exit, but he acted too soon, as the board ran out T5439 and the eights held to double Clayton up to 180K and leave Levi with less than four big blinds.

Ashley “actyper” Cheung rounds out the list of early double-ups. After a Q32 flop Cheung pushed all in holding KQ and his opponent revealed A4. Neither the 8 on the turn nor the 3 on the river improved his opponent’s hand and Ashley was awarded the pot. After fading fifteen outs twice, Cheung now has 480K.

Scott “stsitron” Sitron is back above the average stack after getting a bit lucky just to make the money yesterday. We just saw Scott standing up across the room with his hands on his head and rushed over to find that he had another player all in on a T54 board. Sitron was ahead with 55 for a set of fives against the other player’s AA. The ESPN crew flew over to catch the 2 on the turn and T on the river, sending a big pot over to Sitron to increase his stack to 705K.

Jeff “HB_HITMAN” Anderson was sent home after losing a flip for a 300K+ pot. Anderson’s got his last 150K chips in preflop with AK was up against an opponent’s 77, but he was left drawing thin when the flop rolled out 976. The Q turn card left Anderson drawing dead and he left with $27,469 for his four-plus days of work.

Jon “sketchy1″ Eaton’s Main Event has ended as well. With the board reading 9327 Eaton, pictured right, bet 54K and his opponent raised the majority of Jon’s stack. Eaton moved all in and his opponent made the call with 75, drawing against Eaton’s A9. The dealer wrapped the table, burned a card and spiked the T on the river eliminated Jon from the tournament.
