Double Em Up by Court on 11.11.08, 7:38 pm

In back to back hands chip leader Jon Jaffe has seen two of his opponents double through him. First Jack Schanbacher moved all in over the top of an opening raise from Jaffe and Jon called the 1.15 million all in from Jack. Jaffe’s pocket fives were up against the AQ of Schanbacher. The flop came queen high with all hearts, pairing Schanbacher but giving Jaffe the chance to make a flush to win the pot. He missed his flush and set on the turn and river and Schanbacher was the first person to slow Jaffe down today.

The next hand Jaffe found himself in a similar situation. David Pham had opened the pot, Jaffe called, and Schanbacher called before Mike Matusow (left) moved all in. Jaffe was the only caller and again Jaffe had a pair against two over cards, this time pocket eights against Mike’s AJ. The board came out Q-3-2-5-J and with the jack on the river Matusow went flying around the room, high fiving fans and screaming in excitement.

Jaffes ability to pick up pots in the early going put him in a position where he was able to double up 2 players and still hold the chip lead, but of course his cushion has been diminished greatly as the field levels out. Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little moved in over the top of a Pham raise and a Jaffe calle, and Jaffe went into the tank, contemplating his third all in call in the past 5 hands, but he decided this time to let it go and Little was able to add to his stack without a showdown.

Rough counts after the series of hands:
Jon Jaffe - 3.6 million
Jack Schanbacher 2.2 million
Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little - 1.8 million
David Pham - 1.7 million
Charles Marchese - 1.6 million
Mike Matusow - 1.5 million
