Deeb Beats Then Busts Filtz by Rachel on 06.25.09, 1:42 am

Almost 80 percent of the starting field in today’s $2.5K Mixed Hold’em event has already been eliminated as the players take their final break of the night. There are currently 117 players remaining out of the original 527 entrants. Fifty-four players will eventually make the money.

We caught Shaun Deeb (pictured at left in an event from earlier in the World Series) and Justin “fluffdog” Filtz in the middle of a hand during the most recent round of limit hold’em. Both players checked the turn on a J72A board. The river was the 5. Deeb made the 2K bet on the end and Filtz said, “Call.”

“Nuts,” was Deeb’s reply as he turned over AT.

Over at another table, Theo “pittrounder” Tran raised to 1.7K before the flop after the game switched back to no-limit hold’em with blinds at 300/600 and 75-chip ante. The player in seat eight then moved all in for 8.6K and Tran made the call after a brief hesitation. The hands:

Tran: AJ
Seat eight: KQ

The flop of KQ4 was ugly for Tran (pictured right) and the 3 on the river didn’t help. However, the T fell on the river, giving Tran a straight and eliminating his opponent. At last check Tran appeared to have about 65K in front of him.

During the same level of no-limit, Filtz was involved in a hand with Jean-Robert Bellande. Both players checked the flop of AK4. The turn was the 3. Filtz checked and Bellande bet 3K. Filtz called and the river was the Q. Filtz checked again and Bellande made a bet of 5K. Filtz called again and Bellande tabled AJ, forcing Filtz to muck.

We weren’t there to catch the action unfortunately, but Filtz has since been eliminated by Deeb, who chipped up to 51K after the win.

Players who have hit the rail include Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier, Alex “Kadabra” Keating, Shawn “sbuck21″ Buchanan and Louis “MrBeeks” Werman.

Here are some other chip counts from around the room:

Jeff “yellowsub” Williams - 43K
Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen - 36K
Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire - 26.3K
Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby - 22K
Corey “comandr_cool” Burbick - 18K
Clark “snake8484″ Hamagami -17K
Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg - 7K

WSOP 2009 EVENT #45 $10K PLHE

The players are just coming off of a break in Event #45, but one player who isn’t breaking is JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado.

Alvarado was in a hand with an opponent with the board reading 874. JC’s opponent checked and he bet 15K. His opponent called and the dealer burned and turned the 9. Both players wrapped the table awaiting the river; the 6. Alvarado’s opponent checked a third time, but JC did not check behind. Instead he announced pot and splashed a handful of orange chips into the pot. Alvarado’s opponent folded and he raked the pot to remain above 300K.

The players are now just one bustout from the money — 27 people will eventually cash.

Here are the other chip counts we collected while the players were on break:

Bryn Kenney — 600K
Isaac Haxton — 500K
Davidi “legrouzin” Kitai — 430K
Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin — 410K
Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp — 260K
Keven “stamdogg” Stammen — 260K
Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania — 140K
Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier — 136K
Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith — 90K

WSOP 2009 EVENT #46 $2.5K OMAHA H/L

Jordan “iMs0lucky0″ Morgan and Sasha “bikocuz” Rosewood can be added to the long list of P5ers to go broke in Day 2 of event #45. The field is thinning quickly, but Josh “SDouble” Schlein is still fighting to make the money. Bubble play is approaching. Four of the remaining 49 players will not get paid and with 48K, Schlein is a bit below average.
