We actually made it through the scheduled five levels on Day 6 as the starting 185 players trimmed down to 64 when the tournament clock hit zero. Unbelievably, more than a quarter of the field is made up of P5ers, including Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp, who is among the chip leaders going into Day 7 with 8.2 million.
Bracelet winner Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith (pictured left) was able to keeep his deep Main Event run alive when he open shoved for his last 600K or so in late position with the blinds at 20K/40K ante 5K and Joe “jcada99″ Cada called from the blinds holding pocket sevens. Smith turned up his pocket queens, which held to double him up to 1.3 million. Jordan lost a good piece of that back a few orbits later when a player moved him all-in on the turn with the board reading 7-7-5-8 and Smith was forced to fold, but he is still alive and will return tomorrow with 850K.
Two men from Kentucky were seated next to each other in the Amazon Room during the final hour of the night. Both were wearing UK Wildcats hats. Only one was left standing. Louisville’s Brian Powell got his remaining chips in preflop when he called an all-in bet from Erlanger’s Billy Kopp with K
K
. Kopp tabled A
Q
.
“Let’s see if I can win this one,” Powell said as the ESPN crew swarmed around the table. The Q-4-2 flop gave Powell a sweat as Kopp picked up a pair of queens but the T
on the river changed nothing. However, Kopp landed the knockout punch when the A
spiked on the river and Powell was eliminated in 66th place.
Another player who won’t be returning tomorrow is Clayton “clayton27″ Newman. After losing over half his stack in the previously reported hand where he held A-K to his opponent’s A-Q, Clayton got the remainder of his chips all-in preflop holding pocket kings only to discover the player who called him held pocket aces. Newman was eliminated in 68th place, which earned him $90,344.
