It’s a little past 3am here at the Rio and the Amazon room is nearly cleared of tournament players. The $10k Mixed event that started at 5pm is done for the night with 2007 WSOP Player of the Year Tom Schneider as the chip leader. Other big stacks include Jeff Madsen, Greg “FBT” Mueller, Gus Hansen and Johnny Chan. They will resume play at 3pm Thursday afternoon. Online players Tom “Durrrr” Dwan (pictured at right) and James “mig.com” Mackey are still in but will need to work on building their stacks tomorrow to stay in the fray.
The only tournament still running at this time is the $1.5k O8 tournament, Event #6. Sixteen tired players remain, but the majority voted to continue playing down to 9 as originally scheduled. The last two levels saw some interesting action:
- Michael Spegal won $6,367 in prize money as he was eliminated in 27th place.
- Scott “BigRiskky” Clements eliminated Joseph “Tall” Bunevith with a wheel on the turn, sending him home with $6,367 in prize money and a 22nd-place finish.
- Before the 20-minute break began, Chris “SKOAL” Falconer took down a huge pot, busting John Shirk with a 6-high, nut low straight. SKOAL has built quite a stack and is looking strong going into the last hours of today’s play.
Good luck to the final sixteen players of the Omaha event as they forge on into morning!
