With 15 minutes left on the clock play was paused and card was drawn to see how many more hands would be played for the night. Seven more hands at each table was the magic number and after the completion of the set number of hands the players were done for the night. Chips were bagged up and put aside until tomorrow’s action while the floor staff is scrambling to clean up from a day of play and then get new setups out for the 9pm satellite.
The idea of a satellite running for a tournament that is already 5 levels in is a new one and the late registration policy adopted for this tournament that allows registration all the way through the 8th level of play has drawn much criticism and been the topic of lots of discussion recently. Somewhere in the range of 35 of the 246 players that registered today were eliminated and with the information of who has chips, how many were eliminated and anything else a potential player could want to know based on 5 full levels of play those holding out on day 1 can now make a decision on whether or not to play.
Some late day eliminations included Joe Sebok, Eric “Basebaldy” Baldwin (right), Daniel Negreanu and Amit “Amak316″ Makhija. Sebok lost a lot of chips when he ran into trips and then his last 17k ended up in the middle with his flush draw up against a player with a larger flush draw, leaving Sebok drawing to pair one of his undercards and fade the redraw of his opponent. The board bricked out and Sebok was eliminated.
Earlier Brunson 10 member Alec “Traheho” Torelli was eliminated and not long after Amit “Amak316″ Makhija became the second of the Brunson 10 to head to the rail. Makhija was all in with AK against pocket queens for a hefty 130k pot but the board bricked out.
Jason “JCarver” Somerville and Jonathan “FieryJustice” Little both looked strong throughout the late part of the day and when the official chip count comes out later both are expected to be near the top. Jason finished up with over 200k and may be the overall leader going into day 2 play. Matt “Mattg1983″ Graham had been among the chip leaders early in the day but he took a hit late and dropped to below the 60k starting stack after running into pocket aces.
