The previous $1,500 NLHE Event (#24) made it all the way to the money on Day 1. Today’s $1,500 didn’t quite get to that point but only 327 of the original 2,638 players will return tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. local time for Day 2.
It seemed like each time we walked by a table where David “DocSands” Sands (pictured left) was playing in event No. 28, a $1.5K tournament that started on Saturday, he had more chips. He had chipped all the way up to 74K with about a half of a level left to play in the evening when this hand happened.
The player in seat nine raised to 3K before the flop and Sands made a re-raise to 8.1K. The other player called and the flop was 6

. Sands’ opponent led out for 10K. Sands re-raised again to about 25K. After a few moments the other player defiantly declared himself all in. Just for good measure (or perhaps in case Sands hadn’t heard him the first time), he loudly said he was all in one more time when Sands didn’t act immediately. Sands remained still, as always, as he made his decision, which was to fold. He promptly went back to scooping pots, though, and with few more small wins before the end of the night he finished with 60K.
Josh “josh11thal” Leventhal exited during the final level of the night. With blinds at 500/1,000 and a 100 ante Leventhal moved all in for his last 16K from the hijack and the button instantly moved all in for a total of 23K. Leventhal had a great opportunity to double up before play halted but his pocket eights couldn’t outrace his opponent’s AJ as an ace landed on the flop. Others sent on their way home during the final level were Thayer Rasmussen and Hevad Khan.
Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson (126K) and Anthony “D1rtyR1v3r” Nardi (96K) were among the chip leaders at the end of the day while a handful of P5ers are around the average stack of 36K. Here’s a look at the counts we got:
Jason “JP_OSU” Potter - 40.8K
Josh “pbdrunks” Van Duyn - 36K
Tim “tmay420″ West - 31K
David “The Maven” Chicotsky - 30.1K
Rob “veeRob” Perelman - 27.2K
Kyle “kwob20” Boker – 16.6K
WSOP 2009 Event #29: $10K Heads-Up NLHE
The lengthy match between Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar and Brock “t_soprano” Parker has come to a close. Parker held a slight chip advantage over Aguiar for much of play and blinds had gotten fairly sizeable at 1.2K/2.4K. Shortly after taking a short breather, the two returned and Parker raised to 5K from the button. Aguiar moved in for the remainder of his chips and Parker called, having him covered. Jon showed A-6, which was trailing Brock’s A-10. The board was unable to help Jon and Brock’s ten kicker held to give him the pot and the win. Others joining him in Round Three tomorrow are Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier, Justin “Boosted_J” Smith, and Brian “ship_the_perc” Lemke.
There are still a few matches going on before the event calls it a night, including an interesting match-up between Bertrand “ElKy” Grospellier and Jimmy D’Ambrosio. For those of you who are not avid Bravo TV network watchers, Mr. D’Ambrosio was prominently featured on an episode of “The Millionaire Matchmaker” in which he frequently referred to himself in the third person as “Jimmy D” and went on a failed date with a girl he claimed was crazy, in part, because she told him she was a practicing Scientologist. D’Ambrosio recently doubled through Grospellier to keep the stacks close to even, so a winner has yet to be determined.
