When we asked Andy “BKiCe” Seth (pictured left) how he got so many chips, here is what he said:
“I made the nuts. Repeatedly.”
Andy didn’t have the stone cold nuts in the hand he told us about, but it was still a pretty substantial nearly 30K pot. Seth raised preflop and another player just called. The flop came down Q
J
5
and Andy and the other player proceeded to get it all-in for the other player’s last 13K with Andy holding Q
9
for top pair and a flush draw and his opponent holding pocket aces. The turn was a brick for Seth, but the 4
on the river gave him a queen-high flush and the pot.
VaShon “Julian Verse” Watkins also chipped up during Level One. In a multi-way pot with the board reading 6
5
3
the small and big blinds checked to Watkins who bet 650 (around 2/3 pot) from the cutoff. The button called, as did the small blind, and the player in the big blind folded. The turn was the Q
and it checked to VaShon again. He fired 1,550 this time, which induced a fold from the button and a call from the player in the small blind. The river came 7
and the other player checked to Watkins a third time. Watkins bet out 2,425 and the other player quickly called. When VaShon showed Q
Q
for top set of queens the other player mucked and Watkins raked the pot. Last we checked in with him he had 39.5K.
Apparently the poker gods are fickle folks as it appears Clayton “clayton27″ Newman, who doubled up earlier this level in a set over set situation just doubled another player up in a set under set situation. He is still above his starting stack though with 36K.
Tom “titantom32″ Braband (pictured right) had a frustrating first level. He said he’s had to fold an overpair of pocket kings on a board of smaller cards and managed to lose relatively little when he ran his pocket queens into pocket kings. He is still doing alright though and has 28K at the first break.
While Braband was worried about mucking overpairs, other players had more important things on their minds. David “Bakes” Baker was visibly concerned with a missed opportunity by someone to earn the prize pack from Jack Links Beef Jerky during the past level. The company is offering a promotion in which any player that makes quad jacks will earn a $100 prize. On a board that had three jacks, Baker stood up preparing for one of his tablemates to reveal a jack at the showdown. Neither had one. “S#$&!” Baker exclaimed as the camera crews rushed over to see what they’d missed. Fortunately Baker has a 57K stack to return to after the first break.
Another player with a big stack to come back to is Alex “42o Never Loses” Case. He doubled during the first level of play. Case was all in with aces against kings on the turn with the board reading J-6-4-3. Alex held and now sits with 63K.
Jamie “mmmwawa” Kerstetter was caught trying to steal a pot on Table 231 in the Amazon Room. We reached the table on the turn and the board read 7
7
6
3
. An opponent in the blinds checked and Kerstetter bet 1.8K. Her opponent flipped two yellow 2K chips in the middle and the dealer delivered the Q
on the river. The man checked to Jamie who bet 4K. Her opponent thought long and hard before finally making the call and Kerstetter frowned before tabling K

. The man revealed 6

for two-pair and won the 13K pot. That hit sent Jamie down to 18K.
