At first it looked like Table 72 was breaking, which didn’t make sense. Only one player, Steve Zolotov, has been eliminated, and all the other tables are filled.
All the players, including Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein and Pat “TorontoToro” Pezzin (pictured left), proceeded to move to a different table near the back of the Orange Section. Greenstein told us that there was a vent positioned above their old table and some players were complaining about how cold it was.
Nevertheless they got the cards back in the air and The Bear quickly warmed up at his new table. With the limits at 1.8K/3.6K, Greenstein got heads up with the 2007 $50K HORSE winner Freddy Deeb on fourth street in Stud Hi. Barry showed A
7
and bet. Deeb, showing 6
2
, quickly put in a raise. Greenstein called and picked up the A
on fifth street. We didn’t even pick up Freddy’s card because he mucked as soon as Barry bet. Greenstein picked up another nice pot off of Andy Black in Stud 8 and is back up above the starting stack and now nearing 200K.
Across the room Cory Zeidman is discussing the NBA with Mike Matusow. Matusow began praising the Lakers for their great defense with Laker’s Owner Jerry Buss a table over.
“Right Jerry?!?!?” The Mouth shouted. “Defense wins championships!”
Buss cracked a smile, but retained his focus on the task at hand. A few hands later Jerry was involved in a hand with Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis. The hand was raised pre-flop by Brett Richey and Billirakis, Buss and Greg “fossilman” Raymer called. The flop was Q
T
T
and Buss led out. Raymer and Richey folded, but Billirakis raised. Buss called and the turn was the 5
. Jerry check called a bet from Steve and the dealer dropped the 9
on the river. Both players checked and Buss tabled A
Q
. Billirakis flashed KQ quickly before mucking and Buss raked in the pot. After the hand Steve was left with just over 100K.
WSOP EVENT #50: $1.5K LHE SHOOTOUT
Kevin “ImaLucSac” MacPhee (pictured right) has taken over the chip lead at his table with three players remaining. On a flop of K
6
4
, MacPhee checked and Maria Ho made a bet with the limits set at 300/600. The player in seat one called as did MacPhee. The turn was the 5
. MacPhee checked again and Ho bet. Seat one then moved all in for a little less than the 600-chip bet and MacPhee decided to raise. Ho folded and MacPhee turned over 4
5
while the other player showed A
K
. The river was no help to the all in player and he was eliminated by MacPhee.
A very short time later, perhaps even on the next hand, MacPhee won a big pot with pocket aces against Ho and now has more than twice his nearest competitor.
The seat formerly occupied by Scott “gunning4you” Seiver is now empty, making him the first person eliminated from his table. Isaac Haxton and Jonathan “driverseati” Tamayo have also hit the rail and Jordan “scarface_79” Smith was seen walking out of the Brasillia Room.
Here are a few more updates on players we missed before the break:
Table 202 – Eric “Efro” Froelich is playing five-handed and looks to have about 6K.
Table 199 – Shawn “sbuck21” Buchanan and Craig “craigthedeac” Boyd still have three other players remaining at their table. Boyd took some chips off Buchanan earlier. Boyd bet the turn with the board reading 8
8
6
-3x. The river was the T
. Boyd bet again and Buchanan called. Boyd turned over K
K
and raked in the pot.
Table 177 – Matt “mattg1983” Graham is one of six players left and has about 6K. He was heads up with another player in what another player at the table told us was a 4-bet pot pre-flop. The flop was T
5
3
. Graham made a bet and the other player called. The turn was a king. Graham bet again and he was called. Both players checked the 4
on the river.
“You check?” said the other player. “I sucked out.”
He turned over A
2
for a rivered straight and Graham mucked.
WSOP 2009 EVENT #48 $1.5K OMAHA HI/LO
Apparently any four can do for our friend Brandon Cantu. Cantu has over seven times the average stack with close to 900K and was over a million about an hour ago. Brandon has steamrolled over his table, and after a second place finish earlier in the series we’re confident he has his sights set on a bracelet.
