Christmas in July by Rich on 07.08.09, 11:59 pm

Scott “gunning4you” Seiver (pictured left) received an early Christmas gift over on Table 103 in the Red Section of the Amazon Room. With the board reading QJTJ9 he and an opponent got it all in. The pot was worth about 40K and Seiver held J9 for jacks full of nines, but was worried his opponent might hold a better full house. His opponent rolled over T5 for just a pair of tens. The table waited for the man to collect his things and leave before needling Scott quite a bit.

“What is it Christmas?” a man asked him. “Did Santa bring you that?”

Evidently Seiver dodged the naughty list and is nearing 100K in chips.

Ryan “ryanghall” Hall made a laydown that a lot of players couldn’t make during the past level. And it probably saved his tournament. Kevin “Phwap” Boudreau was moved to his table and the two got involved in a crucial pot right away. Hall raised to 2.1K prefop and Boudeau called. On the 884 flop Hall led out for 3.6K and Boudreau raised to 19K. Clearly puzzled by the overbet, Hall thought for nearly five minutes before the clock was called on him. As time expired he mucked his hand and Boudreau showed an 8. Hall pulled us aside (three tables away) to tell us that he folded pocket queens. He still has 61K to work with going into the final break of the day.

Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar and Josh “JDSmith9″ Smith (pictured at right) clashed in a hand in which a player in the hijack opened for a aise to 2.1K at the 400/800 blind level and Vivek reraised to 6.1K total out of the small blind. Josh thought momentarily before moving all-in for just shy of 30K total, the initial raiser quickly folded, and Rajkumar just as quickly called with KK. Josh needed help, as he held AQ, and he got just that as the flop came down A99. The turn and river came running deuces and Smith doubled to 60K while Rajkumar dropped to 75K or so. After the hand, Josh tried to sympathize with his online poker brethren, but also couldn’t help but explain himself, saying, “If I fold A-Q against you I’ll be berated for years,” which got a good laugh out of both of them.

Shane “shaniac” Schleger also got a double up during the latter half of Level 8. We missed most of the action, but caught up with the hand right as Shane was moving his last 16K in the middle with the board reading A832. Judging by what we caught of the action, Schleger’s opponent appeared to put him all-in on the turn and Shane called turning up AQ, which was ahead of the other player’s 35. The river was an innocuous 9 and Shane doubled up to around 50K.

Patrick “BigRed0000″ Stemper continued his trend of knocking opponents out when he checked a 984 flop from the big blind in a 3-player hand. The player under the gun led out for 10K (around the size of the pot), the player behind him moved all-in for just shy of 20K, and Stemper reraised all-in. The player under the gun thought a minute before folding what he said were pocket aces. The player who initially moved all-in showed TT while Patrick turned up KQ for a flopped flush. The flush held and Stemper scooped the pot that chipped him up to 110K.

Andy “BKiCe” Seth continues to add to his stack. He raised to 2.1K before the flop and the player in seat six called. The flop was A92. Seth bet 2.6K and seat six called. Both players then checked the 8 on the turn and another nine fell on the river. Seth bet 8.1K and the other player called. Seth tabled T9 and his opponent mucked.

There were a spur of eliminations during the last hour of play.

Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade (pictured at left) moved all in for about 19K after the player under the gun opened the pot for 2.2K. The other player called with QQ and Wade’s AQ was in bad shape. The board ran out K943K and Wade hit the rail.

Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson open shoved all-in for his last 10.5K and David Benyamine called from middle position. Benyamine’s A-K had Johnson’s K-J dominated and when an ace fell on the flop and Johnson failed to improve on the turn or river he was eliminated.

Steve “PiKappRaider” Burkholder’s was on the other end of the double up scenario when he opened for a raise and a short-stacked player moved all-in for their last 16K. Burkholder called with 99, which was trailing the other player’s KK. The J53 flop left Steven drawing to a single out, which failed to come. Burkholder was left with just 21K and hit the rail soon after.

Other eliminations in the past hour include Noah “fouruhaters” Schwartz, Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire, Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet, and Alvin “alsmooth” Zeidenfeld

One player escaped elimination.

Remember when we said Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania was down to his last 4K and had grinded it back up to 9K? Well, in the span of one short hour he is back up to 70K and, according to him, it happened with only one of his hands going to showdown. Other than getting it all-in preflop with pocket eights to another player’s A-7, Mohsin has chipped up without having to show a hand.
