Christmas by Court on 12.16.09, 8:29 pm

Chad “M8kingmoves” Batista must be on the nice list this year.  He just got an early Christmas present at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic when Jean Noel Thorel made a play that left a lot of people trying to figure out what just happened and left Chad with a mountain of chips to stack - after a quick cigarette break.

Mark Gregorich had moved all in for around 35k after Thorel raised and Batista made the call.  Thorel also called and the flop came J83.  Thorel checked to Chad and then raised to 115k after Chad bet 30k into the dry sidepot.  Batista (left) quickly moved in covering the more than 200k Thorel had left in his stack.  Just as quickly Thorel called - with only ace high.  Thorel’s AK picked up a backdoor flush draw against Chad’s set of threes with a spade on the turn but the river didn’t fill the flush and Batista won a 600k+ pot, getting most of the chips in when he had a set against only ace high.  Gregorich had AQ in the hand and Batista’s set took the whole pot and eliminated both Gregorich and Thorel.

Corey “UGOTPZD” Carroll
doubled through Jamie Rosen with queens against nines and was up over 250k but his stack took a few hits and just before the end of the third level of the day Carroll was eliminated when his A8 couldn’t catch up to KJ after a jack high flop.

The bustouts have been flowing and the field is down to only 80 players with two levels left in day 2 play.  Carter “ckingusc” King was able to bust Erik Seidel when his nines made a spade flush to crack the red aces of a somewhat shortstacked Seidel.  Steven Landfish has been the chipleader for most of the day and Keven “Stamdogg” Stamen is one of the players Landfish has recently relieved of all their chips.

Dani “Ansky” Stern was busted in brutal fashion, getting all the chips in on the turn of what was said to be a J-9-x-x board with his pocket queens against another players KQ for just two overcards and a gutshot with one of his overcards blocked by Stern’s pair.  A king popped out on the river, eliminating the Brunson 10 member from the tournemant.

Fellow Brunson 10′er Amit “Amak316″ Makhija has chipped back up and has a stack of over 300k in front of him.  Makhija had a smile on his face as he mentioned running good and getting lucky against Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers.  Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire won a race to double up through Vivek “psyduck” Rajkumar when his AK paired an ace on the flop and held up against the pocket fours Vivek had.  After the double Devo had 190k while Vivek was down to only 60k.
