From Chip Leader to Chipless by Court on 02.25.09, 12:14 am

After holding the chip lead for a majority of the tournament, Kofi “redsoxsox” Farkye experienced the brutality of no limit hold em.  In just a couple of hands he went from the chip leader to being the 31st place finisher.  The field had bunched up, with the chip leaders getting pulled back into the pack as the shorter stacks doubled up, but Farkye still had more chips than anyone else even after dipping below 900k.

The lions share of his stack went to Chris Ferguson in a hand where Farkye (right) opened fro 24k and Ferguson raised to 76k with position in the hand.  Farkye made the call and on the AQ6 flop both players checked to the 7 turn.  Kofi then led out for 120k and Ferguson made the call.  The river was the 3 and Farkye pushed his 600k remaining chips into the middle, covering Ferguson and putting him to a decision that could either cost him his tournament life or make him the chip leader.  Chris made the call with the AK which was good enough to give him the massive pot and leave Kofi with only 250k chips remaining.  Farkye had the 65 in the hand against Ferguson.

After losing the massive pot it wasn’t long before the last of Farkye’s chips were in the middle.  This time he had the KJ and was in bad shape against the AK of Chris Karagulleyan, but by the turn Kofi had made two pair on the K-Q-8-J board but a ten on the river righted the ship making the dominating AK the best going into the hand and the best coming out of it.  Farkye’s 31st place finish is worth $38,085.

Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier also earns the $38,085 payout for his 32nd place finish.  He was eliminated after his pocket jacks lost in an all in preflop situation to a player with AQ.
