With Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith’s win last night, our P5s bracelet tally is sitting at a pretty ten out of 36. Impressive, yes, but we’re greedy and we want more more more! We’ve got a shot today too with both Ian “IanJ” Johns and Alex “Kadabra” Keating at the final table of the $2K LHE event. That final table kicks off at 2PM and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on their progress.
The noon event today is the $5K NLHE Shootout, which could turn out to be really interesting. The event is capped at 1,000 entrants, but as of now only around 240 players are registered. When there are 1,000 players, the math is pretty simple when it comes to dividing up tables. When there are 240 players, things get a little trickier.
On our way in, we consulted with a crack team of experts in the form of Garrett “GBecks” Beckman, Chad “lilholdem954″ Batista, and Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers about how the tournament staff will deal with balancing tables over the three rounds. Apparently it was too early for such heavy division, as the grand total of five of us had a more difficult time than five people should figuring out the mathematical possibilities. Beckman’s guess is that they’ll hit 250 players and play seven and six handed tables over the course of the three rounds. This begs the question if people who have no desire to play a short-handed event will request to unregister as a result of the potential change.
We’ll have to wait and see, as the start of the tournament has been delayed so the tournament staff can better divide the tables based on the final number of entrants. The scheduled start time has been pushed back to 12:20PM and we’ll keep you posted on how the WSOP staff handles the odd numbers and table draws.
In other news, we’ve got two events picking up where they left off yesterday. Both the $1.5K NLHE and the $10K PLO Championship events will do their best to play down to a final table today.
