Over in the $2K NLHE we’ve lost some players, some players have gained some chips, and we’re moving up the money ladder as the field dwindles to 68 players.
Jason Gray (pictured left) picked up a substantial number of chips in a blind versus blind confrontation. With the blinds at 2K/4K ante 500 the player in the small blind raised to 12K total and Jason thought a minute before raising an additional 20K on top. The play in the small blind didn’t take long before he moved all-in and Gray just as quickly called with A
K
. The other player turned over A
9
and requested an all-black flop. His request went unfulfilled as the flop came A
J
8
. The 4
on the turn kept Jason in the lead and the K
on the river brought him an unecessary second pair to win the 200K pot. When we last checked on Gray, he was sitting with 230K and was settling in at his new table with Joe “Dyzalot” Morneau.
Christian “charder30″ Harder picked up his own sizeable pot when he completed the small blind and the player in the big blind checked her option. Both players checked the K
8
7
flop. The turn came 4
and Harder bet 16.5K, which the other player called. The river was the 5
and Christian deliberately counted out a 31.8K bet. His opponent thought for quite some time and even told him, “I hope you don’t have, like pocket sixes,” before she called. Harder didn’t have pocket sixes, but he did have 5
6
for the straight. The other player mucked and Harder picked up a pot that increased his chip count to 372K.
372K is certainly an impressive number of chips, but just a few tables over Jonathan “therookieqq9″ Plens has Harder bested with 523K. He picked up a huge pot when he flopped a set of threes against Robert Cheung’s top pair to eliminate Cheung and take the entirety of his nearly 200K stack. Plens looks poised for another deep run just days after making the final three tables of the $1.5K that was taken down by Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin.
While these players are flying high, several others have headed home. Jason “JAKoon1985″ Koon, Steven “mcnallyville” McNally, Corey “comandr_cool” Burbick, and Matt “mlagoo” LaGarge are just a few of the players that have been recently eliminated.
Here are some chip counts of other P5ers remaining in the event:
Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith - 255K
Jack “doctor_fun” Powell - 155K
Joe “Dyzalot” Morneau - 120K
Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich - 112K
WSOP 2009 EVENT #38 $2K LHE
We informed you earlier that David “Doc Sands” Sands was sitting with Teddy “The Iceman” Monroe in the Amazon Room. The two were separated before dinner break, but a seat was vacant at Sands’ new table a few minutes ago and a floorman informed him Monroe was filling it.
“The Iceman is back!” Sands shouted enthusiastically.
David has a lot to shout about, he is our resident chip leader with 31K.
Barry Greenstein is above average with 12K and so too is Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg with 11K.
WSOP 2009 EVENT #37 $10K STUD 8
Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis (pictured right) busted from Event #37. There was heavy betting on each street and the short stacked Billirakis got it all in with Full Tilt Pro Perry Friedman after sixth street. The hands looked like this:
Billirakis: 6
4
4
A
6
Q
Friedman: 7
K
3
9
7
6
Perry sweated his down card first and it was a seven to give him trips and Billirakis let out a sigh. He needed a six or a four to fill up, and found neither with the T
.
The field is down to 33 runners and 16 of them will get paid. The money bubble is approaching, and we will surely let you know when it bursts.
