There was no hero call to be made against Steve “PiKappRaider” Burkholder this time, but that didn’t stop him from trying.
On a flop of J

, Burkholder (pictured at left in a tournament earlier in the series) led out for a bet of 3.2K. The player in seat eight made the called.
The turn was the Q
. Burkholder bet again, this time putting 6.5K into the pot. His opponent called.
The river was the 5
. Burkholder considered his options for a while before carefully counting out three stacks of five yellow chips and placing an extra one on top for a 16K bet. The other player counted out a call and place it aside, then appeared to be counting out a raise. After some thought, he stacked the chips for a call back up and quickly placed them in the middle.
Burkholder showed him A
A
, and he mucked his hand.
“Nice bet on the river,” he said. “I kind of tried to make a hero call.”
Burkholder chipped up to about 65K after the win.
Across the room, Shaun Deeb raised to 1,550 pre-flop and was re-raised by the player in seat two to 4.8K total. Deeb looked perplexed as he checked his cards a couple times before finally asking his opponent, “Do you know who I am online?”
He didn’t get an answer, but he eventually decided to move all in. The other player called all in and Deeb had to like what he saw.

and Deeb scooped the pot. On a side note, Deeb has spent a portion of the day wearing a dealer vest for no discernible reason other than his friend, who happens to be female and a dealer here at the Rio, gave it to him for the evening after getting off work. Deeb said it is technically a men’s size small but it is still feels like it’s going to rip when he moves around. Still he’s quite proud of the look, which you can see in the picture above.
We haven’t been able to catch him in a hand, but Brett “threatnasty” Switzer is sporting a big stack once again this World Series. He has about 80K in front of him.
November Nine member Darus “BejoMas” Suharto is fairing quite well. We saw him eliminate a player after the two got it all in after the flop came 9

. Suharto held K
J
against his opponent’s A
9
, and jumped ahead when the J
fell on the turn. The T
was insignificant and Darus scooped a pot to jump over 80K.
After the hand Suharto pulled us aside and told us about a hand that occurred right after dinner break. During the 200/400/50 level, Darus raised to 1050 from under the gun with A5 suited. Action folded to the big blind who called. “It looked like he was going to fold,” Suharto explained. The flop fell T-T-5 and the big blind led out. Darus called. The turn was the 4
and the big blind checked to Suharto who bet 8K. His opponent quickly shoved all in. After tanking for a while, Darus decided to call. “He just shoved so quick,” he told us. Suharto’s read was spot on and his opponent tabled 8-9. The river bricked and Darus won a pot worth 50K.
Recent eliminations include Andy “badgerpro” Schultz and Anthony “D1rtyR1v3r” Nardi, whose pocket sixes couldn’t stay in front of an opponent’s A
J
.
WSOP 2009 EVENT #35 $5K PLO
Cliff ”JohnnyBax” Josephy just tangled with Jesper Hougaard at his new table in Event #35. We caught up with the action after the flop and with the board reading K
T

Josephy bet 15K after Hougaard checked from the blinds. Jesper called, and both players checked when the board paired on the turn with the 9
. The 2
came on the river, and Hougaard checked a third time. Bax looked confused and sat back in his chair for a moment, but eventually bet 40K. Jesper quickly called, turning over K

for the nut straight. Josephy mucked, and was visibly unhappy that he didn’t check behind.
