Brock Parker Wins Bracelet by Rachel on 06.08.09, 2:30 am

Make that four bracelets in 14 World Series events for PocketFivers in 2009. Brock “t soprano” Parker (pictured at left) defeated Daniel Negreanu heads up to win the $2.5K six-max limit hold’em event to win his first WSOP bracelet and almost a quarter million dollars — $223,688 to be exact.

Parker A-J was ahead of Negreanu’s K-10 the whole way in the final hand. The last of Daniel’s chips went all in on the A-10-6 flop and Parker dodged all the kings and tens left in the deck to claim the victory.

At one point Brock was the short stack at the final table, and Negreanu had a big lead at one point heads up, but Parker patiently fought his way back to the top of the leader board. Here how the rest of the final table finished:

2nd place: Daniel Negreanu — $138,280
3rd place: Tommi Horkko —$89,660
4th place: Kevin Hong — $60,885
5th place: Barry Shulman — $43,201
6th place: Kyle Ray —$31,966

With the victory, Parker joins Jason “treysfull21″ Mericer, Rami “arbianight” Boukai and Keven “stamdogg” Stammen on the list of PocketFivers to win bracelets this year.

WSOP EVENT #15: $5K NLHE

The money bubble has burst in the $5K NLHE tournament, and the remaining 46 players are now guaranteed at least $11,945.

Both Amit “amak316″ Makhija and Neil “Puggy82″ Stewart (pictured at right) were eliminated before break. Makhija was facing an 80K bet with the board reading T763. Amit grabbed his stack with both hands and pushed it into the middle. His opponent, Fabian Quoss, thought briefly, and then called with JJ. All Makhija could say was, “wow,” as he flipped up his K-10. The river was a blank, the 7, and Amit was eliminated.

Stewart was kind enough to replay his bust out hand for us. According to Neil, he pushed his chips in the middle on a nearby table after an opposing player put in a third bet from late position. “He was re-raising ‘The Toilet,’ so I knew his range was pretty wide,” Stewart said. Faraz “The Toilet” Jaka, folded, and other opponent was priced in and made the call. Stewart held A-J and dominated his opponent’s J-10. Unfortunately for Neil, a ten came on the turn and eliminated him from the tournament.

Steve “SteveyBallGame” Merrifield took a bit of a hit, when he flopped a pair of aces and a flush draw against quad 8s. Merrifield check-raised his opponent all in on the turn, and was unhappy to see he was drawing dead. To add insult to injury, an ace fell on the river. Steve did double up soon after though, shoving all in from the blinds after a raise from late position. The player called showing A-6. “I only looked at one,” Merrifield informed the table. He tabled the A and slowly revealed the 3 behind it. “Diamonds!” he shouted. Steve got a three instead, as the flop ran 732. The turn and river missed his opponent, and Merrifield raked in a pot. He’s up to around 120K at break.

Scott “gunning4you” Seiver is having a good time at Table 161. He is joined there by Brent “Astrolux85″ Roberts, and the two celebrated when Faraz Jaka was removed from the table after an elimination at a different table. The celebration has since ended, though, after Isaac “westmenloAA” Baron (pictured at left) sat down and busted Seiver with A-K v A-J.

Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp is still among the chip leaders, boasting a stack over 500K. But Danny “dannyills” Illingworth is our resident chip leader with over 700K.

Other chip counts include:

Isaac “westmenloAA” Baron — 560K
Tom “titantom32″ Braband — 316K
Faraz “The Toilet” Jaka — 300K
Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers — 280K
Darryll “DFish” Fish — 200K

WSOP EVENT #17: $1K NLHE LADIES EVENT

Over in at the ladies event, there aren’t too many flops to be seen at Maria “maridu” Mayrinck’s table, but there is a lot of fun being had. Mayrinck is seated with Karina Jett, Shirley Williams and six other talkative women.

At one point, Williams shoved her short stack all in before the flop after considering a smaller raise, sparking a discussion about whether or not it is OK to raise-fold pre-flop with a 20 big blind stack. Williams says she definitely has that move in her but has been instructed not do it by her son, David Williams. Mayrinck and another player said they thought it was OK to raise-fold until you get down to ten big blinds.

“You can raise-fold 20 big blinds all day,” Mayrinck said. “However, what the hell do I know?”

Apparently she knows plenty. Aside from an extensive American education, which the Brazilian said she has got from watching South Park, Maryrinck is doing well at the table. Her stack has been growing pretty steadily all day and she now has 30K, well above the 13K average.

Erica Schoenberg is seated one table over from Mayrinck. The small blind completed to 400 in one hand and Schoenberg checked in the big blind. The flop was Q43. The small blind checked and Schoenberg bet 700. The other player called, and the turn was 5. Again the small blind was content to check-call, this time facing a 1500 bet from Schoenberg. The river was the 9. The small blind led out for 2K and Schoenberg thought for more than a minute before deciding to fold.

There are currently 236 players remaining in the event out of 1,060 entrants, of which 117 will eventually make the money.
