Brikdog Keeps Barking by Jessica on 07.02.09, 12:58 am

The field is growing increasingly smaller in the $5K NLHE 6-Max Event and the tournament area feels a little like a neighborhood block party as players wander from table to table when they are not involved in hands to check up on their friends and competitors and just say hello and stretch their legs.

Josh “brikdog24″ Brikis (pictured left) stood up for a stretch and to take the time to step away form the table and text his friends and family regarding his recent double up. We missed the preflop action from this hand during the 3K/6K ante 500 level, but on the Q55 flop Andy “BKiCe” Seth checked in the small blind, Josh bet out 23K into the 45K pot from the big blind, leaving 47K behind. A player in middle position put in a raise, Seth folded, and Brikis moved all-in for just a few thousand more. The other player called and they flipped up their hands. The other player held A9 for aces up, but Brikis showed 56 for trip fives. The fives held and Josh doubled up to 184K.

Brikis’ tablemate Andy Seth found less success late in Level 16. He and the player seated to his right keep tangling in big pots with Seth rarely emerging victorious. One such example caame when that player, who was in the small blind, raised to 16K and Andy called from the big blind. Seth’s opponent checked the Q53 flop and Andy bet out 21K. The other player called and the two saw the turn come K. Both players checked and the river 6 was dealt. The small blind checked once again and Seth bet out 37K. It appeared as if his opponent was counting out a reraise, but in the end he elected to just call. There was a brief hesitation where no one turned up their cards and Andy conceded defeat, stating, “you’re good.” The other player turned up his pocket tens, which were enough to take the pot and drop Andy down to 155K.

Frank “Frank1the1Tank” Calo continued to pick up chips at a steady clip. We watched him eliminate a short stacked player who moved all-in for his last 70K and Calo reraised from the small blind. The reraise persuaded everyone else to fold. Frank showed pocket aces while his opponent held pocket nines. The aces held, the player was eliminated, and Calo boosted his chip count up near 400K.
