Boukai-Yah! Arbianight Wins Event #10 by Jessica on 06.06.09, 6:02 am

With the elimination of Ben Grundy in third place, P5er Rami “arbianight’ Boukai (pictured left) was heads-up with Najib Bennani for the bracelet and nearly $250K first place prize. Heads-up play began virtually even stacked, but on the first hand of play Boukai took down a big pot to pick up a 2 to 1 chip advantage.  In a matter of minutes Boukai had his opponent on the ropes and the two got it all-in preflop during the Hold’em portion of the event with Boukai holding pocket nines to Bennani’s QJ.  Bennani looked poised for a double up after the A-K-Q flop, but the nine on the turn gave Rami the lead and the ace on the river gave him nines full to take the pot and, more importantly, the title.   Congrats Rami!  That makes two P5er bracelets so far! At our current win rate, that means we should have eleven P5s bracelets by the end of the WSOP. No pressure though…

WSOP EVENT #11: $2K NLHE

Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar’s (pictured right) final hand in the $2K NLHE tournament started out bad and ended worse.

Aguiar announced all in under the gun. He didn’t move any chips into the pot, but the dealer announced that he was all in, according to multiple players at the table. However, the player in seat three did not hear the announcement and tried to raise to 27K. He was informed that Aguiar was all in and then proceeded to have a lengthy argument with the floor about whether or not his chips had to stay in the pot since he (and several players on that side of the table) did not hear the all in announcement.

The floor ruled that the 27K must stay in the pot and the player could decide whether to call the rest of Aguiar’s all in. The player decided to fold (though continued to argue for several more minutes). Aguiar kept his arms folded in front of him and his head down throughout the ordeal. After seat three folded, the player in seat four asked how much the bet was. Aguiar looked up and told him it was 187K total. After thinking for quite a while, the player announced that he was all in as well. The rest of the table got out of the way, and Aguiar asked, “Do you have A-K?”

The player said no, so Aguiar assumed he was flipping with his AQ. However the other player turned up AJ.

“This is the hand I need to hold up,” Aguiar said. It did on the T64 flop, but the J on the turn ended Aguiar’s tournament after no queen or king came on the river.

“Wow. Really?” said Aguiar, with the original argument still going on behind him. He got his ticket for cashing in the event and left the Amazon Room.

On the other side of the tournament area, Eric “white_mamba” Ladny (pictured left) was the player getting lucky. (He said we should title this post “Ladny sucks out again.”) His A-Q was dominated by another player’s A-K pre-flop and in even worst shape after the other player flopped a flush draw, but he got a off-suit queen on the turn nonetheless to double up and end the night with 418K a short time later.

Jason “JAKoon1985” Koon, who was seated to the right of Phil Hellmuth for much of the day, finished with 326K. He told us he added about 100K to his stack toward the end of the day with pocket aces. A player opened for 25K before the flop and Koon just called with his aces. The big blind then called as well. The flop was 7-7-4. The original raiser bet 25K, and again Koon just called. Both players checked the nine on the turn. Koon’s 70K bet after a queen fell on the river didn’t get called, but he was happy to pad his stack with the pot.

“This has been a really fun day,” he said of his time spent next to the Poker Brat. Hellmuth won’t be making the re-start at noon tomorrow, though. He was incredibly short-stacked for a long time before finally busting with pocket sixes against another player’s J-10.

Scott “stpauli111” Hall finished the day with 719K and is among the chip leaders with 25 players remaining. Play will continue on Saturday until a winner has been determined.

Ryan “late_entry” Gentry and Kevin “bukowski101” McColgan both busted before the end of the night.

WSOP Event #12: $10K Mixed Games Championship

The bubble has burst in the $10K Mixed Games event and the 20 players remaining are all guaranteed a $16,649 payday.  Mike “SirWatts” Watson busted before the money bubble was reached but chipleader Huck Seed, Eric “EFro” Froelich, Scott “DorinVandy” Vandy, Ozzy “Ozzy87″ Sheikh, and Brian “snagglepuss” Powell are all still alive in the event, which stopped play shortly before 3AM PT.   Play will resume tomorrow at 1PM.

WSOP Event #14: $2.5K 6-Handed LHE

The 126 players remaining in Event #14 called it a night after eight levels of play. Looks like Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich has taken his drinking elsewhere as his seat is now empty and we didn’t see any sign of Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith or Eric “jakz101″ Crain either, but here are a few chip counts of some other folks we caught as play wound down:

Lex “RaSZi” Veldhuis (pictured right)- 46K
Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein - 31K
Shawn “sbuck21″ Buchanan - 28.5K
Grant “drossxyu” Hinkle - 17.5K
Brock “t_soprano” Parker - 9K
Jon “PearlJammer” Turner - 4K

The remaining 98 players will return tomorrow and try to play down to the final table or until 3AM, whichever comes first. Once the official end of day chip counts are released, we’ll compile a more comprehensive list of those P5ers still in contention for the bracelet.
