Billirakis Among Day One Leaders by Rich on 06.27.09, 5:07 am

Play has stopped for the evening in Event #49 and Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis (pictured left) has one of the bigger stacks in the room.

Billirakis battled a tough table with players such as Greyg “fossilman” Raymer, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Brett Richey and fellow P5er Justin Bonomo. Steve ended the day with 223K in chips.

Bonomo did not fair so well, ending the day with just 64.3K.

Pat “TorontoToro” Pezzin chopped a nice three-way pot in Omaha 8. When we got to the table the board read QJT. Five players limped into the pot pre-flop and on the flop Freddy Deeb led out for a bet. Pezzin called and so did Full Tilt Pro Erik Seidel. The turn was the 7 and Deeb let out again. Pezzin raised, Seidel called and Deeb put in a third bet. Both Pezzin and Seidel called and all three players saw the 9 on the river. Deeb led out a third time, Pezzin called and Seidel quickly folded. The hands were tabled:

Deeb: AKT4
Pezzin: AK82

Deeb and Pezzin both had broadway and chopped Seidel’s bets. Pat ended the night short though with only 77K.

Here are the rest of the end of the night chip counts:

Justin “BoostedJ” Smith — 246K
Annie Duke — 210K
Zac “zacpacker” Fellows — 187K
Jon “PearlJammer” Turner — 170K
Barry Greenstein — 151K
Scott “BigRiskky” Clements — 123K
Cory Zeidman — 97K

WSOP EVENT #50: $1.5K LHE SHOOTOUT

We missed the action, but the slight chip lead Mike “SirWatts” Watson had over his tablemates disappeared and he was eliminated from the $1.5K limit hold’em shootout event. Matt “mattster24″ Sterling is now heads up at the table with Gavin Griffin. Griffin would have been crippled just a few hands ago if it weren’t for a lucky river. With the limits at 600/1200, the board read Q628. Griffin bet and Sterling made the call. The river was the 5. Griffin bet again and Sterling called. Sterling turned over his pocket nines and looked surprised to see Griffin’s 56. Sterling still has the chip lead at last check, though.

Craig “craigthedeac” Boyd is heads up with Shawn “sbuck21″ Buchanan. Boyd’s stack has been slowly dwindling for a while, but he was still alive at last check with just a few big bets in front of him. On a flop of J95, Buchanan checked, Boyd bet, Buchanan raised and Boyd made the call. The turn was the 3. Buchanan led out and Boyd made a raise. Buchanan called and the river was the Q. Buchanan bet and Boyd just made the call. Buchanan turned over J5 to win the big pot.

Brock “t soprano” Parker has fallen just a bit behind in his heads up match as has Kevin “ImALucSac” MacPhee.

Eric “jakz101″ Crain, who held the chip lead at his table for much of the front round, surrendered a big chip lead to Tom Schneider and has been eliminated.

Mike “goleafsgoeh” Leah is second in chips at his three-handed table. Ben Fineman, whose table was also playing three handed, was down to just a few hundred chips after an opponent turned a set of nines against him to win a big pot.

Defending champion Matt “mattg1983″ Graham and Jeff “yellowsub” Williams have been eliminated.
