A Big Hand for Amit by Rich on 06.28.09, 5:43 pm

Amit “amak316″ Makhija, pictured left, picked up a near-double up on the last hand before break. We missed the preflop action, but Amit told us one player raised and got called in 2 other spots. The initial raiser bet out on the Q43 flop, Makhija raised to around 1.3K, the initial raiser 3-bet to 3,325 total (leaving around 4K) behind, and Amit moved all-in just having his opponent covered. As soon as Makhija’s chips went in the middle, the other player cursed to himself and went in the tank. He eventually called with AQ for top pair, but Makhija had him bested with 44 for middle set. The turn was the 8 and the river a meaningless T and Amit busted the player to build his stack up to 15.5K at the end of Level Two.

Jeff “yellowsub” Williams chipped up at a nearby table. In one hand, Williams raised to 300 from middle position with the blinds at 50/100 and a limp in front. A player in the cutoff called, David “Chino” Rheem called on the button and the limper tossed 200 more chips into the pot. The flop fell KT9 and the first player to act checked to Williams. Jeff tossed a 500 chip into the middle, the cutoff folded, Chino called and the limper got out of the way. The turn was the Q and Williams slowed down, checking to Rheem. Chino quickly fired 700 and Jeff made the call. The river brought the 3 and Williams checked again. Chino bet 1.5K and Jeff almost beat him into the pot. Williams tabled KJ for a king high straight and Rheem mucked. Jeff has 13K on the players’ first break.

Isaac Haxton is applying some pressure on his table early. When we arrived the flop and turn had already been dealt and the board read T93J. Haxton led out for 1.5K and Sirious Jamshidi called. The 9 on the river paired the board and Isaac pushed the rest of his stack in the middle. Jamshidi reluctantly folded and Haxton scooped the pot. Isaac is sitting with 6.7K and both of his re-buy chips.
