October is the best time of year in Vegas and today is one of those perfect days. The weather at noon is in the low 70’s with the sun shining. Everything looks bright, crisp and clean and it is just the type of day that can put a smile on the face of even the biggest of sourpusses. The view from the Fontana Lounge at the Bellagio looks out over Lake Bellagio where the famed water show is performed with the Paris hotel and their version of the Eiffel tower in the background.
The view looking out is pretty spectacular, and the 200+ players starting day 2 play are hoping for some spectacular results inside today. Registration is still open through 3 levels of play today and 8 total levels in the tournament. After adding in the satellite winners from last night and the players that registered in the interim between the end of play yesterday and the start today the total field tally is up to 264 and expected to continue to grow, if slightly, throughout the day.
While the number of total entrants will continue to increase, the remaining players number should start to drop off at a more rapid pace. Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers (above) and Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier (left) have both been eliminated in the first few minutes of day 2 play. Showers flopped top pair with KQ on a Q-4-4 board but was up against AQ and outkicked for his tournament life.
Players are at the 400 / 800 blind level with a 75 ante. The smaller than usual antes drew the ire of Daniel Negreanu yesterday, referring to the WPT as the PAPT for Pansy Ante Poker Tour. With his late day elimination yesterday the will be no reason for Negreanu to return today, giving Jack McClelland and the tournament staff a break from his opinions on the structure.
