‘Basebaldy’ Busts ‘ElKy” by Rachel on 06.18.09, 7:46 pm

In our last post we reported about Bertrand “ElKy” Grospellier’s rise to the top of the $1.5K NLHE Event #34 leaderboard. His reign didn’t last very long.

Grospellier lost most of his stack to Steven Bradbury when he ran his pocket kings into Bradbury’s pocket aces preflop. He went into the 20-minute break with less than 300K and was eliminated shortly after returning by Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin (pictured at right).

With blinds at 12K/24K/ ante 3K Grospellier moved all in from middle position for 170K and Baldwin called. Bertrand tabled JT while Baldwin had the lead with A8. The 885 flop gave Baldwin trips and his hand held to eliminate Grospellier in 13th place.

We’re now 10-handed in Event #34. Players are on a short break while they move over to the ESPN featured table. Andrew “allofit29″ Youngblood has chipped all the way up to 700K while Jonas Klausen is the chip leader with 1.9 million.

WSOP EVENT #36: $2K NLHE

Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby (pictured at left) doubled during the last level of the $2K NLHE event. With the blinds at 100/200 a player in late position raised to 550 and Hamby called out of the small blind. On the 952 Hamby checked and his opponent bet 650. Hamby check-raised to 2,150 (with around 3,400 behind) and the other player put him all in. Hamby called and his opponent flipped over AA.

“That’s a good hand,” Jared said as he showed his JK. He needed running cards or a diamond to stay alive and got there with the 5 on the river to increase his stack to almost 16K.

Jeff “jeffboski” Sluzinski raised to 600 before the flop with the blinds at 100/200. John Racener and the player in the big blind made the call and the flop was Q86. Sluzinski led out for 1K. Racener then re-raised to 3.5K and the big blind got out of the way. Sluzinski folded as well, leaving himself with about 4K.
